Hoping someone with knowledge of prescribing IV meds can help...

I live in TX and my LLMD is in LA. He wants me on IV, but cannot prescribe them since I live in TX and apparently TX has strict regulations about that.

My question is the following... if I were to change my address and even temporarily leave my job and move back to my parents' house in FL, do you know if IV's can be prescribed from out of state while residing in FL?

Is there any other reason I'm not thinking about that this would not work?

I have been on orals for over 2 years. Lots of them. I would like to go with the big guns if at all possible and am ready to overhaul my life by quitting my job and moving in with the parents if it takes that. I just don't want to make any moves until I understand if this would even help the situation.

Thanks for any help or knowledge on this!!

I would love to hear from people who have experience with this as well. I'm in the same boat. My LLMD doesn't want to do IV with me since I moved out of state. But I'm unclear as to the reason. I hear other LLMD's do it no problem.....

Good question and I hope you get some answers soon!

I am also in TX and my understanding is that we need a doctor to order it and/or monitor it. One of the LLMD's we saw for my daughter seemed to think she might be able to find someone for us. We haven't gone to IV yet, but I am thinking we would move to be closer to our LLMD while we did it. I would like to be near a doctor and a hospital that wouldn't freak out if we showed up with a PICC line complication.

Your LLMD might know what the laws in FL are.

You have to get a doctor in your state that is willing to order the picc line insertion. Your LLMD can order antibiotics for you over state lines; but if he is not licensed to practice in your state, he can not order a picc line.

He can order some things like x-rays; but he can't order certain procedures. I have no idea what the list of procedures is that can't be ordered over state lines, but inserting picc lines in one of them.

I only know this info from ppl that I know that have had IVs meds from LLMDs from another state.

Sorry I don't know details. Maybe someone that has actually had the experience will come along.

It sounds like state laws might vary on this topic. You might consider calling a pharmacy or home health care company where your parents live in florida to see if you can find out more details.

Infuserve pharmacy is located in FL. They have experience working with Lyme patients so they might also be a good source of information for you.
