Could this agonizing ear pain be a herx? What can I do relieve the pain?

Ear pain can be referred pain from your jaw joint. TMJ disorders will feel like ear infection. Lyme loves our joints, and this one is included sadly. One of the main symptom of TMJ disorders is this ear pain. Time... give it time... and there are things to do to make if feel better until this moves on to the next joint. I've helped treat TMJ problems for years. If you feel it's related, I'll pm you some things to do to make it feel a little better while you go through this.

what meds are you on? i had severe ear pain when i was on doxy... i would randomly scream in public when it struck... so i wouldn't be surprised if it's from anti-biotics. hope you feel better soon!

Biofeedback to help if this is TMJ. A new pillow. But also talk to your LLMD. You may need a change in med &/or you may need to see an ear specialist.
It's best to ask your LLMD for suggestions. Although not everything is lyme, it's best if the ear specialist is lyme literate especially since many prescribe steroids and that is not advised with lyme unless an emergency and, only then, with special precautions.

Herxing and the joint pain go together. Ask you LLMD what they think...rule out infection in your ear.
My herxing some months land in my jaw joint also. In a month or so it goes away.
Yes, good pillow, lay on your back as laying on your side only pushes and torques your jaw joint. Soft foods, no sticky chewy foods, treat it like a sprained ankle.. don't overly use it. Lips together, teeth apart... this will drop your jaw to a relaxing position.
Again, have your LLMD ck your ears out, but my bet is that in a few weeks or days it will go away. Herxing comes in many forms.

I had very random shooting pains before starting treatment so painful I would break out in a sweat, thankfully they only lasted a second or two.
Had my ears checked and they could not find anything wrong.
It cleared up for me on treatment.
Is your pain a constant ache or sharp stabbing pains ?
And how long does it last ?

- Don't forget that, sometimes, ear wax can get very thick and can cause pain. Be sure to have a doctor take a look. It's best NOT to use those over the counter ear wax removal kits in case there might be a small tear in your ear drum.
You might try ONE drop of a garlic oil - drops are in listed in the Tinnitus Thread posted above. -

I did go to an ent. I have mild hearing loss. No wax. She said the pain, burning, and noise sensitivity is from inflamed nerves in my ears. I am in agony. She said I could stay on the zithromax , but trying to get a hold of llmd. I am laying off of it. She also said to lay off malarone, but I can't find in the literature as to where it can cause ear problems . I also started iv flagyl. I am in agony . Please help.

I did have trouble prior to getting a dx and tx. I am on malarone , art, zithromax, rocephin, and now flagyl. I dc malarone yesterday and plan on dc zithromax today. I just lm for my llmd.

I am having the same thing! mainly my left ear. I just had a ct scan of my abdomen done and they use an iodinated contrast. When she put that in the IV, I got hot all over (which is normal), but then my left ear started BURNING and ITCHING!!! It was on fire (inside the ear). It was the worst part about the IV contrast. It did eventually calm down.
Not sure why it would cause that sensation as I know my nerve is damaged and the IV contrast runs through the veins.
Anyhow, I feel your pain. I pray everyday for healing of my ear. ENT never has an answer for me, so if you figure anything out that helps, PLEASE let me know.
