I know it is different for your sex, build, height but on the online calculators it ranges for me from 1500 to 2600..that's quite a range. I am female and 5'6...I have been eating 1500 to maintain my current weight. I lost 45lbs and now weigh 130. Do you all watch your calorie intake? I am not active at all at this point.

I eat when I'm hungry. As long as I eat healthy foods, that is a good gauge.

i eat than around 20 carbs a day, and 1000 calories... but if i eat 1000 calories WITH carbs i gain.

i think my metabolism is cursed!

If I eat too many carbs in a day, I gain weight, even if I limit my calories to a small number. And then I always go off the diet and gain it all back.

I have learned that I can eat as much protein, fat, and nonstarchy vegetables as I want and still lose a lot of weight, even if I eat double or more the calories of the low calorie diet. I did this over many months and kept an exact record of all my food and my weight changes.

If I eat healthy carbs and limit the amount (nontropical fruit, maybe some beans, potatoes or a bit of whole grain), I can keep my weight stable. So if your weight is too low, eat more carbs.

All carbs (including vegetables) convert to glucose (sugar) in your body. Complex carbs, including vegetables, some fruit and whole grains, convert to sugar slowly because they also contain fiber and protein. Refined or simple carbs (sugar, flour, some low-fiber fruit) converts to sugar very quickly, or already is glucose to begin with when you eat it.

The trick is to limit your carbs to the ones that convert to glucose slowly, and then raise or lower your daily amount until your weight is doing what you need it to do.

Then you don't have to count calories at all.

Since I lowered my carbs by a lot, my candida is under good control.

When I tried to diet by limiting my calories but eating low fat and not enough protein, I felt like I was starving all the time, but I didn't lose much weight. If you eat more protein and fat, you won't feel hungry all the time, even if you aren't eating that many calories in a day.

Saturated fat is not nearly as evil as it's been made out to be, but if that worries you, then eat "good" fat from avocado, olive, coconut, etc.

Coconut oil also has antimicrobial and antifungal properties, so you can eat more calories, feel less hungry, and fight Lyme & co. at the same time. [Smile] When I was having trouble eating at all because of candida, I put lots of it in everything. It doesn't have much flavor or odor, and it isn't salty, so it doesn't interfere with the taste of food.

The low carb high protein diet may not work the same for everyone, and you have to individualize it to what works best for your body. It has been recommended for Lyme patients from many sources, and I was already using it before I got Lyme, with great improvement in my health when I started it.

If you have hypoglycemia, you may sometimes need to eat the kind of carbs that raise your blood sugar quickly, and other times the ones that keep it stable. If you have serious kidney problems, then you may be advised by your doctor to eat less protein. You have to adapt your diet for whatever issues you have.

Now that I have discovered the joys of eating real food and feeling healthier, I don't want to ever go back to starving myself because of calorie counts, and eating "fake" diet food.

There is an amount of calories that each person needs in a day, which is not the same for everyone because it depends on how much energy you use, how much sleep you get, how much you weigh, if you're male or female, how old you are, etc. But there are calculators on the web that can tell you an estimated average.

There is a website called Fitday where you can journal everything you eat, how much you exercise and sleep, and it will estimate how many calories you used that day, and whether you ate more or less than you burned, if you want to know in that much detail.

I was eating way more healthy, even juiced raw veggies for 6 months. I had periods of eating very healthy, then I would cheat a little for a while. I lost 25 pounds, down to 103 no matter what I was eating.

Now for the last few months, I eat whatever I want pretty much. I eat pizza, white bread, some sugar, carbs, potato chips, you name it. Can't explain it.......but I feel better physically now than I ever did on a strict diet.
