I am still having gastritis and having upper endo Monday. I requested a gallbladder eval, but think I should not have been so quick. I now think I should postpone the HIDA until I get results from upper endo. If gallbladder problems, I will eventually have an attack, right?
Geeeez...so many medical bills, so little $$$$.

Having had several ultrasounds for my gallbladder, and being told I had polyps I proceeded with the surgery. What they found was that it was chronically inflamed (chronic cholecystitis) no polyps. I eventually had the hida scan afterwards but wish I would have done it sooner at least I would have know what I was dealing with.
I never had a designated driver and the procedure was painless. They made me drink a solution and watched as it went through my digestive tract and liver.
I've also had several endos and never knew they could evaluate the gallbladder with this procedure?? It's much further down and not easily visible.
I think if money were an issue the best way to go is the endo for the gastritis and ultrasound to see whats going on with the gallbladder.

The ultrasound will show gallstones. The HIDA will tell you if your gallbladder is funtioning. You could be stone free, but have a GB that isn't working.
You could probably wait on the upper GI results before proceeding.
I don't think you need a driver for the HIDA. At least I don't remember the IV making me drowsy or dizzy. Google it and see what they say there.

You should be fine with both scans. Ultrasound checks structure, HIDA checks function. The HIDA is nuclear medicine, and you should be totally fine to drive after it.It will show the ejection fraction of your gallbladder in response to a simulated fatty meal. I had a low ejection fraction and "gallbladder sludge" from IV Rocephin, the doctors wanted to remove it but I waited a month or 2 to see if it improved and it did. Too many people rush into getting their gallbladder out too soon without giving it a chance to recover on its own.

Sounds like I might as well get both the HIDA and endoscopy.
I know prices vary by region, but any ideas on HIDA scan?
I am really discouraged with all my stomach problems. I am losing the will to fight. I am just so tired now. It is so hard to tell what is lyme related and what is not.

I had major second thoughts when they broke out the box with the radioactive symbols and warnings and the syringe! But it wasn't bad.
Did your doc order it with injection? Be forewarned about that - it can make one very nauseous during the test, but it passes.
