All of the anti-seizure drugs ***increase glucose*** and can cause weight gain and a fatty liver.
He gained 30 pounds AND as the dose was increased, it TRIGGERED seizures.
Coming OFF Lamictil -> anger for about 3 weeks.
It was awful.
Insulin resistance is not a good thing.
IL1B.
Insulin triggers PFK...the "rate limiting" enzyme for glycolysis. Bb is PFK dependent.
It should come as no surprise the body is trying to block insulin.
"Long-term treatment with interleukin-1beta induces insulin resistance in murine and human adipocytes."
EPA (omega 3) helps. It can reverse a fatty liver that happens with Depakote. EPA lowers TNFa and IL1B et al.
I believe it is important to get the inflammation DOWN AND hit Bb.
Like HIV...Bb may NEED inflammation to happen.
Sneaky mischief maker.
Insulin LOWERS blood glucose levels. We (and Bb) BOTH need a lot of glucose, but in a jam, WE can substitute ketones to make ATP.
P.S. We control his seizures with sublingual B6 now and when he is going out in the Florida heat, he has to take extra salt as he has a genetic problem "hanging onto sodium". It took us 30 years to figure it out. Low sodium levels are one of the seizure triggers. B6 helps control sodium levels...if that drops...up goes aldosterone which comes from cholesterol. His TOTAL cholesterol level (checked a couple of months ago) is 106. Needless to say...he needs to eat eggs. He does not have lyme.

I had a lot of anger and irritability prior to finding out that I had sleep apnea. It went away with treatment. For me, lyme was not the culprit unless lyme caused sleep apnea which is of course possible.
I've also had reactive hypoglycemia and I noticed that if I went more than 3-4 hours without eating I would feel cranky.
Marnie - sorry for your son's troubles. Take a look at the BSP 201 thread for an anit-inflammation product that looks very promising.
Terry I'm not a doctor

Don't turn it inward on yourself. We all get angry as *&%$# and it just comes out. I have had a really bad day myself.
