Every once in awhile, I will pay out-of-pocket for something if insurance doesn't cover.

In the past, I depended upon Walmart pharmacy to have the best prices vs. CVS. Wasn't a huge difference, but still.

But now in CA, my choices are CVS or Rite Aid or I suppose Walgreens...does anyone have an inkling of which would be cheaper, if I had to buy, say.....Zithromax with no regard for insurance?

I am just looking to see if there is a general trend here with one having cheaper prices. Not wondering about Zithromax specifically (if I was I'd just call both places), but thinking general/"big picture" for when those situations come up.

I have to choose this pharamacy today. (no pressure though, haha)

I suggest calling the different pharmacies and asking what their non-insured prices are on a few of the meds you are taking.

I think CVS and Rite Aid often give $25.00 gift cards for new or transferred prescriptions. You may want to ask about this.

I've heard Costco is cheaper. Although I've never checked it out for myself. Good luck.

I've hearD that, too. Costco/Sam's Club, and you don't have to be a member to get Rx's.

I don't know, personally, because my Rite Aid is right around the corner and is always offering specials. Thankfully, I haven't had to find out for myself yet because my insurance has been good.

I saw a big difference in price between Rite Aid and Target.

Target has the lowest prices I've found.

But I have not tried Costco

Take one med (or two) and call the pharmacies to check the price. Or go online to check???

I've heard that Costco is the best also.

COSTCO hands down. Don't waste time other places.

I think costco mail order was the one that had amazing prices, but one cannot always wait...

I'm going to echo everyone and say to look into Costco.

I don't have insurance, so I had a prescription filled at Walgreens that was over 200 dollars for one month's supply, then I had the same prescription filled at Costco and it was 85 dollars.

I use Costco for nearly all of my prescriptions that are out-of-pocket. As a previous poster stated, you don't need to be a member to use the pharmacy. They also have this nifty price checker that provides the online price of medications (might be slightly different at the store) and includes most, but not all, medications I've needed.

I agree with Seek! Costco is the best. What you can do with CVS, though, is go to costco.com, get their pricing and CVS will honor them. I've had my scripts with the same drugstore (on it's third name now) for 25 years and CVS is easier to deal with then waiting in line behind all the old people at Costco.

That in itself tells the story - the best prices are where all the old people stand in line!

CVS wanted $70 for my Lorezapam and I get it for less than $11 (90 days) from them due to Costco prices. I just bring in the proof each time I get a refill.

We are using Wallgreens. Ruled out Wallmart and CVS. We are paying $840 for 1 month Mepron, $84 for 9 day supply of Zithromax.

There is no question it is Costco. I did extensive research on this yrs. ago, after a report I saw on T.V. It is mind blowing how much a drugstore can mark up their prices.

I think Walgreens are crooks personally. They sicken me with their mark-ups on generics. They have no remorse about taking sick, desperate people to the cleaners. You tell me how they charge $215 for a Biaxin script in which Costco charges $37. Both are cash prices. That's criminal. I believe they have been removed from some pharmacy networks due to this.
