Daughter has yeast in throat. Went to ENT and sent scope down throat as was not visible by just looking into mouth.

Took liquid Nystatin for 10 days and now has some pains in chest, neck tenderness, and throat still feels weird after eating.

Called ENT's office and her ENT is out until next week, the Dr on call gave her two Diflucan tablets 150mg, take one and two days later take the other.

She is taking good probiotics and just about 10 days ago starting taking Therelac too.

I am so worried that this is a serious condition.

Anyone else cured yeast in throat this way?

The diflucan should help. She can also try 4 drops of oil of oregano 3 times a day.

Don't know how old she is... but if old enough to gargle... and not choke while doing it... you might want to...

Mix about a tablespoon of clear vinegar in a pint of water and stir. You don't want it so strong it will gag her, so do check to be sure.

Have her rinse and spit... and gargle and spit.

This will change the PH in her mouth and make it less suitable for yeast growth.

She can do this several times a day for a few days.

If too young for gargling.. sucking on a wet pickle might help?

Also avoid sugar.

I am NOT a doctor and this is NOT medical advise. Hope it helps though.

Thanks for the great advice, will try the treatments.

She is a teen, so gargling is no problem, the vinegar is the problem... lol

We did try vinegar early on, then was given the nystatin, so we will try the vinegar and oil of oregano.

Thanks

Check out Jason brand "Healthy Mouth" mouthwash.

It has natural oils and extracts to fight germs (bacteria, viruses, fungi) and improve the condition of your whole mouth.

You can read about it here: http://www.iherb.com/Jason-Natural-Healthy-Mouth-Tea-Tree-Cinnamon-16-fl-oz-473-ml/6225?at=0 It is cheaper online but if you want to start it now you can find it at your local health food store.

It is a concentrated formula so the bottle will last you longer. You are supposed to add water when you use it (I put some concentrate in the cap then add the same amount of water then swish and gargle as usual).

When I was struggling with a fungal infection that caused my tongue to look black and furry this mouthwash really helped. With the infection my mouth felt tingly and everything tasted gross. Mycelex lozenges and Nystatin liquid did not clear the infection. The "Healthy Mouth" mouthwash helped turn the corner and began to heal my mouth.

If my mouth ever feels tingly or funny, especially after eating something, I run and gargle well with a big dose of the concentrated mouth wash. I swish and gargle for as long as I can before spitting it out. It really helps. Then my mouth feels fine and tastes fresh again!

Jane, I'm not sure if this will be enough to help heal your daughters throat but it might be worth a try. It can at least help prevent future fungal infections in the mouth.

If your daughter starts feeling worse it might be a good idea to have her evaluated by an MD at urgent care or the local ER clinic. Trust your mom instinct.

Our practitioner uses grapefruit seed extract (Agrisept) to get rid of systemic yeast. It probably works slower than diflucan but seems to be helping my children.

The adult dose she uses is 10 drops twice daily mixed in 8 oz of water/juice.

Thanks Sammy and TB,

I did bring her to the pediatrician's office and her oxygen levels were perfect, lungs clear, all they did was say it was anxiety and did a chest xray. The Np said she never heard of yeast in the Throat.....

She keeps saying her chest feels tight.

Her anxiety is flaring.

Thanks everyone for all the input. I really appreciate all the info.

Other gargle ideas...
lugol's iodine mixed in water
sea salt mixed in water (will also reduce swelling and therefore pain)

Whenever my son would tell me his throat feels "small" or scratchy, I have him gargle with warm salt water and it seems to help immediately.

He now gargles morning, after school and before bed and his throat feelings have stopped.

We are dealing with strep issues with him as well though, not yeast, but it may be worth trying???

Chest pain and throat tightening and increased emotional or axious behavior could be babesia. Is she being treated for it? It could also be bart, but sounds more like babs.

Another reason to try the GSE (Agrisept): our practitioner thinks it can cure babesia, although I have not heard others say this. I am using it on my children and I think they are getting rid of it...but too early to tell. They also take Enula. But my night sweats have disappeared from it alone.

To block histamine (which can happen - go up - when yeast is destroyed)...kids' liquid Benadryl and Maalox - rinse and spit...every 4 hours for youngsters.

If swallowed, every 6 hours. (My grandaughter has a common childhood oral viral infection and this is what her ped. told her to do. See my *** below.)

H1 and H2 blocker...respectfully i.e., Benadryl and Maalox.

No salt water...Bb needs NaCl for motility.

Or this mouth rinse (contains green tea - which maybe VERY good):

http://www.emaxhealth.com/1506/dr-kens-all-natural-alcohol-free-mouthwash-infused-green-tea

Anxiety...glutamate -> GABA to help reduce histamine.

Watch her liver enzymes...if ALT is up one of the products of ALT is glutamate (accelerator) which needs to convert to GABA (brakes) to help control histamine.

Serotonin helps control histamine too.

Google: serotonin appendix

Find the histamine link.

***In lyme and in most (if not all) viruses, histamine is playing a role.***

Histamine helps many viruses to invade.

If she genetically already has high levels of histamine...

Seasonal allergies/asthma, long slender fingers, 2nd toe longer than one big toe, constipation...

High histamine...genetic.

Virgin coconut oil capsules can destroy yeast (monolaurin/lauric acid and caprylic acid), but in doing so, it may trigger a histamine reaction so be sure to have Benadryl on hand.

Thanks for the additional replies.

Tb, I have been wondering about Babs too. Need to discuss with Dr. J.

The difficulty in breathing makes me think Babs too......perhaps now that Bart is being somewhat treated, the Babs is coming out stronger?

Thanks for all the replies. Lots of good advice [Smile]

Read some info online and seems that yeast can cause some of her symptoms and also yeast die off, so will continue to keep an eye on her.

I don't think 2 pills of Diflucan will do much. Maybe a week's worth would be better? Can't your LLMD help out with this??

Glad to hear that she is now on Theralac; it is good stuff!

Lyme symptoms list compared with yeast symptoms
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021202.html

DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

There is also tabs for oral yeast. Clotrimazol. It hits it fast, but if real bad it can make you very

nauseous and sick as it kills.

If you try them I would only do a half tab to start...
