Lyme and daughter's LLMD says Bart too.

Our daughter was supposed to take 200mg daily, was only able to tolerate 50mg twice a day and LLMD said that was fine.

We are working her way back to 50mg twice a day. After a break.

Best of luck to you, Jane

I am on 100 mg x2 Daily

was also told that 100 mg mino replaces 200 mg doxy

Mino is like Doxy but supposibly pentrates the blood brain barier better than doxy

Minocycline is for lyme, a dose of 100mg/day will not kill Bb, but hopefully keep symptoms at bay and prevent replication. Best wishes

Mino is also great for decreasing inflammation.

It is used in AP therapy for autoimmune diseases.

And, is used for mycoplasma infection.

100 mg. is not the standard lyme dosage, but it will help with these other issues.

nspiker,

What is the mino dosage for lyme?

I am also on 200 mg a day, along with 600 mg of rifampin.

I have read that the dosage of mino cannot be increased (above 200 mg a day) because of negative side effects.

However, it is not clear to me that it should be used for lyme if it does not kill Bb.

Mino will keep lyme from replicating, thus eventually if used longterm, Bb will die out.

I am on low dose doxy and have made my best progress on it. I treated the first year with several other antibiotics at high and moderate doses, then started low dose doxy a little over a year ago.

From my own personal experience, I say low dose treatment with mino or doxy is an effective and safer way to treat.

That makes sense.

However, I thought that it was necessary to combine either doxy or mino with a cyst buster in order to break up the cysts.

Does that protocol still work with the lower dosage of doxy or mino? I wonder if, in that case, it is necessary to take the cyst buster for a longer period of time.

And, just speaking theoretically, is 400 mg of doxy or 200 mg of mino a day considered low dose?

Sorry for all of the questions. I find all of this fascinating and very helpful.

From Matthew Gross' Lyme website:

http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/matthewgoss/drugs.html

[QUOTE]Doryx; Minocin; Terramycin; Vibramycin, etc.

Doxycycline

Tetracycline

Minocycline

300-600mg

1500-2000mg

200-400mg
Description: The tetracycline family of antibiotics are used in treating many different kinds of bacterial infections. Tetracyclines are bacteristatic at low doses.

For many bacteria, whose life cycle is short and reproduce within a matter of minutes, low doses will cure them as the bacteria will die before they get the chance to reproduce. But Lyme Disease reproduces over a much longer time frame and will not be eliminated with bacteristatic doses.

Higher doses are needed to be bactericidal and to cross the blood brain barrier (BBB). Doxycycline is often the first choice in treatment as it will eliminate an Ehrlichiosis coinfection.[QUOTE/]

nspiker, I have Gross' website bookmarked. It is an invaluable source of information about abx.

I like to read what other people are using, why their doctors prescribed it and how it is working for them. I have been thinking about asking for this abx myself.

is anyone taking more than 200 mg / day minocin?

Posted by bcb1200 (Member # 25745) on :

I took 200mg 2x per day (400 mg total) for 2 months and then dropped down to 100 mg 2x per day when I started zith.

The first 1-2 weeks of 400mg was tough. Very tippy feeling with increased tinnitus and fog. Then it got better.

I was on 200mg Mino. and had very positive results.

It had to be titrated up from 50 to 200mgs because it is potent. Seemed to work well for me.

I am on 200mg of mino. I started it last year and had to stop due to pregnancy. When I first started it I herxed really bad and was only 100mg at first. So 100mg and definetly will kill something! I found mino better than doxy.

I was on 200mg 2 x a day and it produced very good results for me, until I had "staining" side effect.

The staining looked like bruises on my skin. Mostly on my arms and legs, but a few on torso area.

They all went away after he switched me to doxy.

I have some mino left and I think I'm going to get back on it because I'm getting worse and worse on doxy/Biaxin combo.

When I first took doxy I got a very bad rash from the sunlight. You can't escape it here..but after I began taking it the 2nd time, no reactions or side effects really. So I am hoping taking mino the 2nd time, I won't have se ? we'll see.
