So, I have been treating babs for a month now with 2 teaspons 2x day of Mepron and 1000mg of Biaxin (thanks Katrina). I've been doing really well on it and worked my way up with no problems.

About 5 days ago I got this really bad muscle pain in my arm. I have never had muscle pain before so I'm wondering what this could be? Bart maybe? I doubt its a herx because its lasted 5 days already.

I have muscle pain and weakness from Babesiosis.

Many people herx every three weeks or so when treating Babesiosis.

My kids got muscle pain mostly from bart I think. It is possible that since you may be knocking down the babs load, the bart is coming out. Someone described this as the "whack-a-mole" game...you knock one down and the next one pops up. Seems to happen a lot with these diseases.

I've had it too every now and then. Lasted a few weeks....

Arms and legs. Could hardly walk to my car without stopping as my calf muscles hurt so bad.

My LLMD said it was a herx.. but that I had over done it in the sun (AZ=pool) too much Vit D...(and Zith) and as soon as I stayed out of the sun as much, it went away.

Thanks for the replies.

So both co infections cause muscle pain? I think it might be bart coming out. Guess i'll have to put up with it until I start treatment.

I've had it mainly in my left arm....but it is in the right arm also. Started out as a tiny spec of pain in the middle of the elbow. Then boom!

Every day it advanced further & further, then started affecting the muscle. Lost about 20% mobility in my left arm now.

People tell me.."Oh, you have tendonitis!" or "carpal tunnel"!

Really?

arkiehinny: it is in my left arm as well. Are you treating babs or bart? Or both?

Don't even get me started on what people or Dr's "say" makes me furious. We know that LD can cause very strange symptoms.

A herx can last a LONG time!

I would suspect babs as well.

Really?? I've always wondered about that. Thanks Lymetoo.

I was in misery my entire first year.. second one wasn't much better. I never got a break.

Any possibility that as you're treating a co-infection, the Lyme shows up more?

My muscle pain was due to untreated Lyme. When I started abx - in my case, clindamycin, the muscle pain stopped.

Muscle pain is a common side effect of Mepron..

I think lyme symptoms are more likely on one side only, while bart symptoms more likely on both sides. I would think drug induced muscle
damage would be more likely on both sides as well. Just thinking out loud here though.

beachinit, it's interesting that you feel that lyme is one sided only... is that based on anything scientific or are you just guessing..

lulu, lyme is usually one sided while bart and babs is on both. That is in the books I have read, not just opinion or a guess. But my experience is bart can cause really bad cramping anywhere and that is often one sided. My shin pain, which isn't muscle, is on both sides. You can also get cramping while treating bart.

My lyme symptoms are pretty much one sided.

neff, it would be interesting to read that.. cuz from what I've been reading here it seems to be the contrary. This thread for example:

Paul, did you get tested for co's?

I have had a lot of muscle pain, and I am not on any ABX (awaiting dr appt).
When I first got really "sick", my pain was all on one side, my NP said this was "unusual" in Lyme disease,
but she is the one that suggested we test for it, and it was positive.
I learn so much from these posts you cannot imagine!
My pain seems to radiate, or did all on left side, but in the last week has gone to both sides,
still worse on left. Since I am not on any meds except some leftover pain meds,
it can't be abx.. hope you get some answers that help with the muscle pain.

I get lyme pain in my right knee and right arm. Most people complain it is in their left side and there was a thread about why that might be. I believe it depends on which side of your body you were bitten on. But lyme migrates all over so I could have pain in my knee one month, then my arm two months later etc.

With bart both of my legs and my back were aching. It was intense. Then it settled into my shins and did not migrate elsewhere except for the muscle spams and cramps.

Often people use lyme generically and think that their symtoms are all lyme related when they are actually co-infections. Some symptoms, like muscle spasm, over lap but there are specific symptoms related to each infection that help you diagnose what you have.

If you want to read about it you need to get a lot of books on lyme and the co-infections. I get just about everything that comes in print but I can't tell you which book or where it was written. Just don't want to look up something I am certain about - would rather look up the things that I am unclear of and need to remember correctly.

nefferdun- interesting you feel that Bart symptoms dont migrate.

My muscle tightness is from the waist down...but will vary to which muscles are tight from day to day. I also have trigger points in most of those muscles. Do you know what affects the SI joint?
