I know that avoiding sugar is a must, but is fructose OK?

My blood sugar would go through the floor if I didn't have at least an apple or piece of fruit a day, but I fear that it's feeding bacteria.

I've read that fructose is used differently by the body, and I'm assuming fruit and veggies would help beat any infection.

I often don't have more than two pieces of fruit a day, normally an apple or a banana, and a small strawberry soy smoothie at night for desert, only using a small handful of frozen strawberries.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

That's a lot of sugar if you're having two pieces of fruit AND a sugar-filled smoothie.

If you're having problems with yeast (and you probably are) then you should eat only Granny Smith apples. They have less sugar.

And I would eat only one.

Keep your blood sugar up by eating vegetables or proteins. Eating sugar (fructose) only makes you "tank" later.

I'm such a party pooper! [bonk]

If you are treating lyme and coinfections with antibiotics, then you must severely limit your intake of fruits or you will get intestinal yeast. (It feeds off of sugar, including fruit sugar.)

You can only eat the sour fruits. Here is what Burrascano says about fruit:

"RESTRICTED FOODS
FRUITS
Fruits may be a problem because they contain a large amount of sugars. However, if the fruit contains a lot of fiber, this may make up for the sugars to some degree. Thus:
Fruits are only allowed at the end of a meal, and never on an empty stomach
Only high fiber fruits are allowed
 Only very small amounts!

EXAMPLES:
ALLOWED IN GENEROUS AMOUNTS
Grapefruit, lemons, limes, tomatoes, avocado

ALLOWED IN SMALL AMOUNTS ONLY! (The high fiber content in these hard, crunchy fruits partially
makes up for the carbohydrates)
Pears, apples, strawberries, cantaloupe, etc.

NOT ALLOWED (These soft fruits do not have enough fiber)
Oranges, watermelons, bananas, grapes, etc.
No fruit juices either!" (pages 34-5)

Right after a good meal, a few dark berries can be enjoyed.

Quinoa is a good non-gluten whole grain that also helps keep blood sugar stable. Best consumed with lots of brightly colored vegetables. Other non-gluten WHOLE grains can be enjoyed in moderation- with vegetables still being the focus. Wild Rice, Black Rice, etc. The high fiber content and the nutrient ratio helps keep blood sugar stable.

Red BELL peppers can be enjoyed anytime. They have a very high vitamin C content. They are not hot.

With Olive Leaf Extract (OLE), I never had any trouble with candida when on abx. Years earlier, when battling candida, I avoid all fruits for years. My body suffered in many ways from that. Wish I had known then about OLE.

THere are ways to address candida so that some key nourishing fruits can be enjoyed.

Fruit is the minor problem. It is the toxic metals that people are holding in their body.
The body will create fungi in order to survive.
The mercury and neurotoxins otherwise would kill it. Complex carbohydrates are important. I ate all the fruit I wanted plus juices and never had a fungi or candida problem. But I learned to detox metals and chemicals and very successfully following the Allergie Immun therapy. Most people doing this therapy also find that they are allergic to all fungi, mucor, penicillin, etc. All that is taken care of with Allergie Immun. Then you can start freeing your body.

Here are Dr. K's comments on that subject dating back to the mid-90's. Nothing has changed in that regard, except the detox methods have been improved upon. If you retain metal deposits in your body, you will have fungi -- no anti-yeast diet is going to make any appreciable change.

Ks Axiom

Dr. Ks axiom says:

Most if not all chronic infectious diseases are not caused by a failure of the immune system, but are a conscious adaptation of the immune system to an otherwise lethal heavy metal environment.

That does this mean? It means essentially that because mercury

suffocates the intracellular respiratory mechanism and can cause cell death [that] the immune system makes a deal; it cultivates fungi and bacteria that can bind large amounts of toxic metals. The gain: the cells can breath. The cost: the system has to provide nutrition for the microorganisms and has to deal with their metabolic products (toxins). That does not imply that the tolerated guest cannot grow out of control, as it sometimes clearly does. Therefore, there is still a limited place for antifungal / antibacterial treatment but only for the acute phase of the disease. A so-called die-off effect (the sometimes severe crisis or even lethal reaction a patient can have in the initial stages of aggressive pharmaceutical antifungal or antibacterial treatment) is often nothing else but acute heavy metal toxicity metals released from the cell walls of dying microorganisms as suggested by my own correlation of clinical syndromes and urinalysis for metals. (, Amalgam/Mercury Detox as a Treatment for Chronic Viral, Bacterial, and Fungal Illnesses, Paper presented at the Sept. 1996 Annual Meeting of the International and American Academy of Clinical Nutrition, San Diego, CA).

Is this axiom correct? Dr. Ks results as well as my own results suggest that this is correct because when patients are put through a thorough mercury detox program, there is always a dramatic improvement in the clinical picture for chronic Candida infections.

Health Restoration Consultants uses a mercury detox program described below. One of the primary ingredients in this detox program is chlorella. Chlorella has powerful mercury chelating actions which are thought to be due to its cell wall. Something in the protein coat of the cracked cell wall binds the mercury. Pretreatment with chlorella before challenge with DMSA or DMPS (specific mercury chelators) will increase the urinary excretion of mercury anywhere from 300 to 1800 percent. Many mercury detox patients report improvements in chronic viral illnesses such as Epstein-Barr, and herpes. Japanese researchers have found that Minamata disease (a mercury disease caused by eating mercury contaminated fish) was far more severe when the patient also had a chronic viral disease. In fact, the prognosis for patients suffering simultaneous Minamata disease and chronic viral disease is poor."

Take care.

GIGI... It is against the rules to post the name of an LLMD here.

First of all, Dr. B's guidelines are all centered around his heavy antibiotics protocol. For someone not taking abx, I don't know if avoiding fruit to such a high degree is wise.

The Marshall Protocol says don't take vitamin D or magnesium because they feed Lyme. Ok, so deprive your body of the things it needs to prevent heart attacks and cancer, just so that you don't feed Lyme. It becomes a race to see which you kill first, the Lyme, or yourself! --Talk about cutting your nose off despite your face!

If you want to take it to that kind of extreme, you might as well say "don't eat." Whatever you eat you can find fault with it in one way or another. Fruit feeds candida. You have food allergies to certain foods. Everything other than fruits and vegetables (and even some within those food groups) create an acid ph in the body which provides the optimum terrain for cancer and disease. So if you want to, you can easily justify not eating anything at all. But of course, if you do that, you'll starve the body and die.

Don't forget, you have to take care of the body so that it can fight Lyme. The whole idea is to get the body and it's immune system to eventually fight Lyme on its own. You have to give it the right nutrition to do this.

These freakin' doctors crack me up. They give you drugs that destroy your intestinal flora, then they tell you not to eat immune-building foods because you'll make the candida problem that THEY caused worse.

Last year, my neighbor and I had a problem with our lawns. They were being attacked with an aggressive growing weed. He chose not to fertilize his lawn because he thought by doing so, he'd also fertilize the weeds and they would grow faster than his lawn and choke it out. I chose to fertilize, then use atrozine to weaken the weeds. My lawn now looks good. He had to re-sod.

VERY VERY true, chaps!

I couldn't help but chuckle at the grass/sod issue. Getting a bad case of yeast is like having to "re-sod."

No joke! [Cool]

I wish kicking Lyme and co's was as easy and (relatively) inexpensive as re-sodding. We'd all be in great shape!

I enjoy eating fruit too. I usually eat about a cup of berries (blue and red rasp are my favorites) and an apple or pear every day.

I do not eat the fruit alone though. I usually combine it with a protein like almonds or greek yogurt.

The protein, fiber, and fats are what helps hold your blood sugar stable for hours. If you eat fruit alone your blood sugar will likely spike and drop quickly.

The most important point here that Lymetoo touched upon is that you should be eating protein not sugar to stabilize your blood sugar. Sugar will make it worse......put you on a continual roller coaster ride of blood sugar surges and dips totally messing with your insulin........not good.

It's an out of date concept to eat fruit to stabilize blood sugar, protein stabilizes it. And given that you are on ABX, no sugar. So, no sugar on both counts.
