So I've posted before about my most problematic symptom- this constant 24/7 dizzy, spacey, drunk/high, or "walking on a cloud" feeling.

After no luck with lyme treatment I realized that this feeling is a hallmark symptom of Babesia. It's never let up for one second it's honestly a nightmare as it is this symptom which has caused me to take a leave of absence from my university. I just want it to go away, but it's been so constant for over 3 months now that I'm a little scared that it's permanent. I went from a student in the National Honors Society to not being able to think.

Has anyone had this feeling constant like this for an extended period of time and had it disappear with Babesia treatment?

I have an appt with Dr. K in Connecticut I know he's great with Lyme but not sure how into treating coinfections clinically he is, if anyone has any experience with him with this that'd be helpful as well.

That is the biggest problem for me as well. I just started Mepron yesterday, so I'll let you know if it helps. I'm curious if others have seen improvement in dizziness with Babesia treatment as well.

And FWIW, I've been constantly dizzy (mostly the drunken feeling) for 2 years. We thought the switch to IV was going to help after nearly a year of orals, but still no change. So I'm hopeful this is the trick. I was equivocal on my Babesia Duncani IFA through Igenex. I'm going to PM you just so I remember to let you know how it goes. Forgetful is also not how I used to be!

Hey Bhealth can you send me a pm too and let me know how your babesia treatment goes. I have the same symptom.

I've been very whacked out for a long time but after taking Mepron for 5+ months, my mind is much more functional.

BHealthy,

Good Luck!

It might be most helpful for everyone and yourself to write an update to how you're feeling weekly or so. That way you can go back and review entries, and check your progress -- as well as others being able to take the ride on Mepron with you.

Happy Thanksgiving!

YES, I have this badly. It disabled me a lot and still does. I have a 1:2,048 titer from Focus Labs on Babesia WA-1 IgG test.

One thing made it go away for a week over all these years: Coartem - 3 day course. My head felt like the bugs stopped crawling, I could walk straight again, think straight. It lasted 10-14 days and then a relapse. [Frown] Pretty obvious it was Babs. It's a horrid thing to have.

seek,

Why did you stop the Coartem after 3 days? I'm not familiar with the medication, so I'm just curious.

Mepron has helped tremendously with this symptom. Also a university student myself. Best of luck to you.

I just tested positive for babesia and am starting Mepron Monday. I have had this symptoms too. Sometimes I am just woozy, like my feet are not firmly planted on the ground. Other times I am tipsy like a drunk. I did not know I had babesia for a long time, just dismissing the symptoms as they crept up. It is easy to blame things on other infections or just life itself.

Despite 4.5 years of aggressive lyme treatment these symptoms persisted until I treated Babesia. Tested positive for Duncani. Even after one year of treatment still had a positive FISH test.

This symptom has gotten soooo much better since treating. 2.5 years into treatment and have made great progress.

Hopefully someday I can stop treatment. I will say to many of you this was one of my babesia symptoms that was really bad. For the most part this has gone away and only once in a while flares. Thank God!

I have done Mepron, Malarone, Riamet, Bactrim, Plaquenil and Artemsia.

I feel 70 - 80% most of the time. Prior to treatment I was unable to function. In bed and unable to drive.

I hope this is encouraging to you! Keep at it!

Katrina

I had babesia and did not have this symptom.

Don't understand why you say lyme treatment is not working. You have not been in treatment very long. This is not a quick fix. Think marathon, not sprint. Wrong sport for you I know, but I don't know any basketball metaphors.

You have posted about drinking alcohol, too much. This will make a yeast problem worse, and I am guessing you may not be doing a low carb diet or taking probiotics. Yeast can cause that drunk/hangover problem.

So, you need to take the other stuff seriously, and not be diagnosing and treating yourself. If after more lyme treatment, you want to question your doc about coinfections, or find another doc to do this treatment if he won't, then that might be a course of action to consider.

If you were an honors student, you need to use your brain here to think about taking better care of yourself while you are getting treated.

Are you taking magnesium, B vitamins? Some people think milk thistle is very useful. I am not much into alternative stuff, but I have thought that these three are all helpful adjuncts to your antibiotic treatment.

Thanks for the input Lou-

I say this because I was only symptomatic for a few weeks before starting 4 weeks of doxy and then going right to 6 weeks of IV Rocephin and I have literally seen no improvement.
I have no joint pain, only neuro symptoms and major major fatigue.

There would be SOME improvement by now. I have all of the symptoms of Babesia and no doctor will really help me so I'm trying to help myself.
After aggresive lyme treatment shortly after being symptomatic it is very clear it is not lyme causing these symptoms.

My son had constant unrelenting nausea for 5 months, April-August. It started easing up slowly and now he is off of his nausea meds. He took zofran on his worst days and can't remember what it is on other days every 4 hours with an under the tongue push. He had to stay in bed for an hour after waking and wait for meds to kick in. I understand how frustrating it is. He has babesia and it may be the tindamax or artemesia that worked for him. He really herxed on both in the beginning.
We are all off of sugar and artificial sweeteners and watching fruits and starches.
It is hard to know what helped what.
Do you have any viruses? Mycoplasms?
Wishing you relief,
