Has anyone been prescribed Savella for fibromyalgia while ill with Lyme. Wondering if this is contraindicated.
Thank you!!!!

I had a physiatrist prescribe it two years ago. Never took it. it didn't fit my symptom profile IMO. He doubted Lyme and said I had something called Fibromyalgia - yep sure.

Another drug like Lyrica requiring titration with a high side effect profile

Yes, it is the 'new' med for fibromyalgia. And the list of side effects scares me. But, I did try three of the lowest dose and darn if it didn't 'seem' to stop the pain at night!!!! I talked to my doctor and he agreed for me to just take the lowest dose (12.5mg) and not work my way up to the 50mg dose.
My concern is whether it would be contraindicated for Lyme patients as are steroids.
I have no doubt that my pain is caused by Lyme but if this med would help me get rid of the pain, sleep at night and function during the day, I will consider using it as long as it won't cause any harm (or severe side effects).
Thanks to everyone who responded!!!! Diane

Savella is not comparable to steroids. It works with certain neurotransmitters to help relieve pain. It is more similar to an antidepressant. Lyme patients are allowed to take antidepressants.

My mom takes Savella for fibromyalgia symptoms. She says it helps too. She also has MS and is being treated with the CPN protocol (zith and doxy).

I should probably clarify that Savella is not an antidepressant. My mom was put on several combinations of those and they never helped with pain. This is different.

Savella made me vomit like crazy, and awful migraine attacks I had to call ambulance. I think if it works, that's great. Things are always worth trying once.

Not sure if I would take it, maybe there are other options??

I was taking it along with my IV Rocephin therapy and it seemed to give me some energy and help with pain . I would of continuted had I not found out I was pregnant ... Intend to continue after baby is born. If it helps you live a "more normal life" and your careful to watch for the serious side effects then I say go for it. Like I said to my doctor. "Now that we know what the problem is, if you could help me treat some of symptoms until we get things as close to normal in my system as possible I would be a much happier person" I'm pretty sure thats what everyone wants on here.
