i went to a doctor about my tongue. the white coating is pretty heavy and the burning is bad.

so he looks at my throat and says snidely "what makes you think you have thrush?" i said "well my throat is white and i have this heavy white coating and i can take my fingers and make grooves in it."

he looked at me and said "you don't have thrush. you have morning mouth." he pulls out this medical books and says "look here. thrush is a cottage cheese type coating that when irritated, will bleed. but since you're so sure here's a couple of diflucan anyway, but you don't have it. stop the sugar."

he told me to get a tongue scraper and use it twice a day and stop the listerine.

is he right? to me, any white coating is a sign of something and i'd say thrush.

he says no.

If he didn't think it was thrush, ask him why he told you to stop the sugar?

I'm sorry, randi, but what KIND of doctors do you have down there anyway?

it's the primary care. i don't have a llmd and i have yet to meet ONE bloody doctor here that believes in lyme and i've been to ALL kinds.

i lost my doctor because of some jerkwad complaining.

randi,

You lost Dr W too?
Pretty ridiculous what went down.

The best LLMD to you is Dr C in Missouri

All the way to Missouri from Texas... seriously? How far is that?

I would move if I had to drive more than a few hours. Our LLMD is 1 1/2 hours away... that's far enough for regular visits.

I am sorry you are going through this.

You do what you have to do. He has patients from all over the US.

It's probably about 12 hrs for randi. There are no real LLMD's left in TX. She MAY be closer to Louisiana though. Not sure. Nothing in OK, nothing in AR.

FWIW, I had the same problem and was told the same thing about what thrush looks like by both my primary doc and my Gastroenterologist, who both looked at my tongue. When I was at the GI doc's office, it was very white. Look up pics of thrush on the web and see if that looks like you.

I was told the white tongue was due to dehydration, due to the drying side-effects of drugs I take, plus the low ADH levels many of us have, combined with irritable bladder and constant peeing.

It is much worse looking when I first get up, and I was told that was due to not drinking during the night. It looks like I put a half teaspoon of yogurt on my tongue and left it there, BUT, if I scrape it off and drink a glass of water, all I am left with the rest of the day is a light, white, see through coating, which is normal, or a sign of slight dehydration.

Real thrush is supposed to come right back after scraping and have nasty redness underneath the white stuff.

I was sure it was thrush too, since I have a yeast infection under one breast and both armpits that I cannot get rid of no matter what I use on it. I am currently using an Antifungal powder that works great but can cause cancer, just what you don't want on your breast! But, I must wear a bra and can't wear one unless I control the infection.

I am not saying you do not have thrush, just that it might be worthwhile to consider something else. If I were you, I'd try opening a capsule of a good Probiotic into a spoon, then turn the spoon upside down onto your tongue and mush the stuff around in your mouth, keeping it in your mouth as long as you can before swallowing. If it's thrush, I think it should improve a lot after you do that a couple of times daily.

Best of luck,

klutzo

When you scrap the coating on your tongue and it comes off then it is not thrush. Your doctor may be right.

well i'm notorious for not drinking water, i just have to choke it down.

and i take sleep meds which say "dryness" right on the side effects.

it does come off easily with a scraper and doesn't bleed. it's sort of a foamy white film. no cottage cheese or bleeding.

i do sleep with my mouth open and i've had this horrible cold.

plus mike says i am snoring enough to wake the dead...

hmmm, might not be thrush....
