Well I though I was better until yesterday...

I used to be an athlete who was able to run miles at a time, play college baseball, you name it my body could do it.

Now, for years I have the weirdest problem that no one can seem to figure out. Please help if you have any ideas. I am desperate to fix this.

Problem: I decided that since I had been feeling pretty good for a while and the wife was exercising I would join her. I ran on the treadmill and was pretty amazed at how well I did. Never felt weird, chest pain stamina none all was decent. I then did some push-ups and sit-up and thought i better now push it the first day and stopped.

As the day went on, I started to feel a little off. Kind of edgy and anxious I guess. Other than that I felt alright, not great but decent. Then, this is where it gets me everytime.... I went to sleep and my heart felt weird (keep in mind my heart has had all the tests) my muscles feel like they will not relax and are very uncomfortable. My head used to get pretty numb too, but was decent last night. Does anyone have an idea what is going on? I have to fix this, especially since I have a 16month boy who is going to want to be active with his Dad one day soon.

Sorry for the lengthiness if that is a word.

I get a weird thing hours after exercise too - similar to what you describe.

When I go to bed on the night that I exercised, I get a weird tingly painful feeling all over and my heart races.

It almost feels like nerve pain throughout.

I have found that if I do yoga or lifting light weights, or even a walk, it doesn't happen.

I think that even though we are feeling better, our bodies are still recovering and are not ready for cardio yet.

It's easy to overdo it when you are feeling good.

When I was well and off treatment, I started doing pilates instead of the exercise I had been doing. Pilates reaches deeper muscles than my previous exercise had and I was doing a lot of it because I went right into a teacher training program after only a couple months of it.

In the late afternoon, several hours after working out, I would be exhausted. It didn't happen when I exercised. This went away after a couple months.

I have had a similar thing happen recently when I started skin brushing. I underestimated how well brushing mobilizes toxins in the skin and hours later would feel that same type of exhaustion. I muscle test and skin brushing is causing me to need a lot more detoxing supps.

I think both the skin brushing and the deeper exercise, which I implemented over a year apart, were reaching a deeper level of toxins and made me feel bad as those toxins mobilized.

Take it slowly. I think the exercise is good, but give your body time to work through the toxins. I am only skin brushing once per week until I adjust, then I'll increase.

Even if the Lyme is gone, it (and treatment) leaves a lot of toxins in its wake. At least that was my experience.

MominTexas - That sounds exactly like what I have. I wonder if it is toxins, or possibly adrenals that are not in the best of shape. Or maybe it could be the lyme and co's being stirred up that were in our muscles?

This is so frustrating... I just want to get my stinking life back.

Maybe I will start with some stretching and resistance, but have a feeling this may trigger too.

Hopefully this topic stays alive and we get some more info

I am interested in more answers about this subject too.

Every time I start an exercise/walking program, I end up ending it due to how it affects me. I get very over stimulated from it and then exhausted. Sometimes I can actually walk a few times a week, then after a couple of weeks it hits me. I have been working at this for months.

I emailed this issue to my LLMD and he told me this is very common in Lyme especially later stage. He says the bodies mitochondrial and energy reserves cannot repair the body like it should.

Over stimulated is the perfect word to describe this. When I was healthy, after a hard work out I would be hungry and want to relax my muscles. Now it is the exact opposite.

I am not at all affiliated with this company, but my doctor recommends a product from Researched Nutritionals called ATP Fuel? Think I am going to try it.

Fuel, I just want to get my stinking life back too. I guess we just have to take it slow and expect it to continue to be a long drawn out process.

I'm gonna continue trying to exercise, even if I have to take breaks often..... 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off or something similar. Its very frustrating!

Sutherngrl - Do you notice that it affects your sleep? I usually feel really bad when trying to fall asleep.

If I don't exercise, my sleep has been great and actually feel refreshed in the morning, which took a looong time to reach

I am experiencing the same thing, not my heart but exhaustion and tingling nerve pain after exercise. I have been trying to return to the gym, walking, very light weights and some rehab yoga and was doing okay although very exhausted hours after.

Yesterday I went to a regular beginner yoga class and I am still exhausted and tingling all over 24 hours later.

I feel for you Fuel I too have small children, how can you exercise if you are not able to do anything for the rest of the day after because of exhaustion.

Such a struggle, I almost feel guilty going to the gym because I know I may not feel well the rest of the day and that takes away from my time with my kids.

Fuel, sleep has been an ongoing issue with me. It has not been good since getting sick, so I can't say for sure if exercise makes it worse. The sleep that I do get is mostly medication induced. I do have heart issues when I am trying to fall alseep however.

Fuel, I do stretching also and find it does not happen, it only really seems to happen when cardio is involved for me.

Try gentle stretches several times a day.

I think as stated above, toxins have a lot to do with it.

It's a bummer though. It makes you think you are not as well as you thought you were after all.

I'm trying to stay positive and just realize I still need to focus heavily on detox.

" . . . it only really seems to happen when cardio is involved for me." (end quote).

Aerobic exercise is to be avoided when one is battling lyme. That is discussed in the thread below as are other Issues relating to exercise intolerance &/or "payback" - and mitochondrial dysfunction - along with non-aerobic options and what can help support our cells for recovery:

Here's your answer:

Post-Exertional malaise. Very common CFS and Lyme symptom, but mostly discussed with CFS.

Research it.

And don't run. Period.

I thought that once you started to improve that then you could gradually add in aerobic exercise. I am only walking, not running; I don't consider walking that extreme of an aerobic exercise.

sutherngrl,

Walking is good, if that works for you. The key is what works for a particular person and does not clobber them.

The links and detail in the CARDIAC thread above will help people figure all this out - along with their LLMD's advise for their particular situation.

Keebler thanks for the info, I will take a look at this tonight when I have more time.

Looking back I guess it is good that before I would get this if I walked all day, now I only get it when I do a pretty strenuous thing. So, I guess this is progress and I need to be thankful for where I am.

I really never have any heart issues at all not even palps unless I exercise...so weird?

The Cardiac thread is about MUCH more than what we think of as typical "heart issues" - much more. Don't let the name of that influence your taking a look at the collection of links there.

Good luck.

The same thing happened to me! I used to work out regularly and be in great shape. Now when I attempt to work out (on a good day) I feel tingly, dizzy and "off." It feels great while you're doing it and then you pay for it afterwards. I do agree that maybe you have to start very slowly and see what your body can tolerate. I am going to try this method and see if it works for me. Very frustrating though.

Burrascano recommends light resistance training with days of rest inbetween but he does not recommend cardio until you are much better.

That makes perfect sense, it seems like it happens the most when I do cardio. I have been fine snowmobiling a few times this year and that is pretty strenuous.

Thank you to all who helped with this.
Have a great weekend all
