I was wondering roughly how long people spend on a protocol. I've been taking Biaxin and Planequil for a month and a half. i herxed right away

I know it treats only two forms of lyme so I'll end up needing a third drug down the line

about how long should I be expecting to stay on this combo?

As long as you're seeing progress. It varies. I was on Biaxin/Plaquenil rotating other drugs in for over a year.

I have been on this combo for 7 months, introducing Doxycycline back in Septmber because I began getting worse on the combo alone. I believe it's because Bart came out and this is why I made more progress when the Doxy was introduced.

I'm on Biaxin and Amantadine for also at least 6 weeks and not seeing too much progress but tolerating it better than Minocycline.

Just came back from my LLMD appt who said to keep staying on it.

I'm frustrated because it doesn't penetrate the BBB as good as Minocycline and I need it to, but can't tolerate it so I'm just not really getting to the brain right now.

I guess I am looking for a more aggressive approach (like incorporating Doxy or something) while on the Biaxin so I am being more efficient in treating this whole thing.. but have to take my LLMD's word?

I have some Doxy (not too many pills) from my GP's prescription back when he thought I had lyme but told me to stop because the lyme test came back negative. I wonder if I can take those too to see if I get any progress.

So does Amantadine

I believe the only macrolide that crosses the BBB is roxithromycin. I don't think biaxin does. I don't know about amantadine.

Amantadine isn't an antibiotic and has no bug killing properties. It simply raises cellular pH and makes the Biaxin works better. Biaxin does cross BBB a bit.

I think you should stay on a protocol as long as you are gradually improving on it. I have been on Doxy for about a year and a half because its the only thing that has given me any improvement.
