my doc gave me the flagyl and cipro for the diverticulitis.

i have no problem with flagyl but when i took the cipro, only two doses yesterday, all heck broke loose.

i was up all night with severe muscle pain and spasms. i had bad lower abdominal pain and even cramps in my back, upper and lower. it was like all my muscles were locked up.

i called the pharmacist and they said stop imemdiately and i called the doctor and told them about it and asked if he wanted to give me something else.

i don't think this was a herx. i had severe ear pain and my head felt like it was going to explode but the abdominal and stomach pain was terrible.

has anyone else had this? i'm hoping that two pills won't cause any long lasting damage.

UGH!! Sorry to hear this!!

I don't think you'll have any lasting damage. Quinolones like Cipro cause nerve pain for me. Maybe this is part of what happened to you?

PS... My nerve pain would go away after being off the drug for a few days, but I now tell my doctors and/or hospital that I am "allergic" to them. They scare me to death!

I think you CAN get permanent damage from them.. but with only a few doses, you should be OK.

I felt HORRIBLE when I treated with Levaquin .... for six weeks .... then I saw improvement.

With those gut symptoms and your response to Cipro, maybe you should consider Humaworm. Cipro treats gut bacteria, but so does Humaworm.

My GI symptoms came right back when I stopped Cipro, so I took Humaworm and it helped immensely. There's also Parastroy. I treated parasites for many months. It's a huge help. HUGE.

With that gut response, you just have to think it could be gut bacteria. I had a terrible balance of bacteria in my gut. In addition to treating it (anti parasitical herbs also treat the bad bacteria), I took massive probiotics.

randibear you need to stop and load up on magnesium and perhaps Vit C for two weeks. The amount of mag to take is in Dr. B's notes for taking cipro/Levaquin. Don't use a plain magnesium supplemnet use like a magnesium glycinate or others that are familiar with different forms of manesium will help you out. Some mag supplements don't absorb into the body that well.

Lymeboy who is on 500mg of cipro, that you were posting on his thread the other day said he took 800mg of Mag glycinate twice a day once in the morning and once in evening but you have to seperate your magnesium several hours from taking your cipro also he stayed loaded up on C. Best of my memory he has been on 500mg for about 6 months and feels 80% well but his doc prescribed 1,000mg and he hasn't moved to that level yet.

Seems to me you said you were taking it for diverticulitus so I'm sure your doc can get you something else but if you ever have to go after bart. I would consider what I mentioned above as there are many docs that swear by it for bart. but start out with 500mg after loading up on mag..
I am not a LLMD so this is nothing but my opinion.

I can't touch a quinolone antibiotic ( the class Cipro is in ). I feel close to anaphalactic shock with one pill, and more than that I'm sure I'd be in an ICU somewhere...or a morgue.
