Levaquin: Similar as you.
Ongoing damage is torn knee cartilage.

Hope, you recover soon.

Lyrica, hair fell out for 2 years, only took it for 3 months. Starting to recover but my hair still isn't the same as it was.

My worst meds were the ones they give me for anxiety/depression--Xanax, Lexapro, Zoloft, Ativan, and Elavil. They all sent me into the worst panic attacks I've ever had, and Elavil almost killed me. Literally.

Zithromax

I'm with Starfall...I took one dose of lexapro...caused me to have a seizure and in the ER!

So far, I have been pretty lucky with all of the antibiotics though...knock on wood!

by far and away wellbutrin! when i was first getting sick from lyme my dr father insisted my symptoms were psychological and prescribed me wellbutrin which is an antidepressant. funny thing is i havent been depressed one day in my life.

it caused horrible panic attacks to the point where i was driving and dry heaving at the same time. after doing a bit of research i found out it was a stimulant. not exactly the best drug for someone with scary terrible neuro symptoms who doesnt knwo whats going on.

as far as abx go id have to say flagal. i think its toxic. rifampin not so hot either but i could handle smaller doses of it.

Mepron! I was horribly nauseaus even with fatty food and I felt that my brain was exploding!

I was a pre-school teacher before Lyme so to make matters worse I felt like I was ingesting yellow fingerpaint everytime I took it!

Rifampin for sure

Rifampin, this is my second try. I'm ramping up slow and it's killing bugs, I can tell!!

Invanz and tindamax- not sure which but was in hospital with dehydration and neurotoxicity.

Ritalin!!

When I was on my Medical Mystery Tour, a sleep doc took the spaghetti approach with me. Throw it at the patient and see what sticks. I took one dose. It was the equivalent of about 5 pots of coffee. I thought I was having a heart attack.

In Lyme treatment, Factive ruptured my Achilles tendon. Thanks, Factive. Like I don't have enough problems.

All SSRI's(antidepressants) and Plaquenil.

I had a horrible reaction to Plaquenil. Severe, unbearable pain in the facial area, jaws, teeth, etc.

And the SSRI's made me feel so much more depressed and like I was physically ill also.

The ones I could not tolerate at all were flagyl, plaquenil and augmentin. Maybe I was just sick with a virus but I have not had the nerve to try them again.

For actually being on a drug -
Levaquin was tough - gave me tendonitis but helped the bart.

Pretty typical responses here..

One thing to note is that Rifampin is generally harder to tolerate for those it will work best for.

It has been my best overall progress abx but also the hardest initially to tolerate. I started at 1/2 a 75 mg pill and worked my way up from there. This is the drug that keeps me close to remission and that I made the most progress on over the years

It has good intracellular capabilities and is excellent against the BLO/Mystery bug.

The floroquinolone abx class is brutal I admit, and should not be used for stints longer than 3 months. Levaquin helped get me a lot better only to relapse, and then to cause lingering severe knee ligament and tendon pain for years..

Best.

Levaquin...anaphylactic reaction which I call my "Levaquin freak-out", and a sore calf muscle/tendon? (after one dose) that persists to this day. The quinolones are poison for me.

Rifampin

Flagyl, rifampin - heck they all got bad!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by stillwater (Member # 30312) on :

Rifampin for me. Within a few days I was a zomby. Got so bad my wife took the bottle away and called my LLMD.

Also Cipro. Took 2 pills and ended up with hives all over my body. Had to take a Medrol dose pack to calm it down.

Also, Septra and Mepron were no picnic.

They all stink!

PROVIGIL!!! Felt like my head was going to explode. Worst stuff ever.

I had a horrid reaction to Bactrim..it seemed similar to an allergic reaction, so I had to stop taking it. I almost ended up in the hospital with that one.
I tried Rifampin breifly as well..that one was hard to tolerate for sure..I felt like a zombie with the worst brain fog ever. I have a feeling I'll end up on it again later in treatment..maybe at that point I'll be able to handle it a little better (I hope).

Qualaquin (quinine)! I was convinced that IV clindamycin and quinine would kick babesia, but it kicked me instead.

flagyl, it took me to the deepest dark pit. That was with slivers of it, pulsed. I tried it for a couple months? Long time ago, '02?

Yikes...I was hoping to go on Rifampin!
For me, going ON doxy was pretty bad. Once I was on it I was ok until the side effects got the best of me...

Cymbalta! Holy hell. That drug was the WORST! I wouldn't give it to my worst enemy.

My worst one is definitely Tigacyl. I'm on it now and it's really rough but I feel it's doing a lot of good.

MINOCYCLINE.

I thought at 100mg dose 2x daily that it would smooth sailing.
And so many Lyme patients rave about how it much it helped them.

It made me so DIZZY !!!!!

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Oh yes on the mino .. you have to begin lower than that. I didn't last very long on that one.

I can't even take flagyl anymore and Rifampin is a definite NO for eternity.

I still want to know where randibear is. I'm very worried about her.

Capristatin for candida - impossible herx for a week. I collapsed on it when I was at a Burger King to get ice for an icebag.

Only the doctor's office didn't know that, when a Burger King employee called the wholistic health doctor's office and said, "This is Burger King. We have patient of yours." And the doctor had just told me bread and sugar, etc didn't exist anymore for me...

I tried to explain it to them later, but they still still called me their Burger King patient!

Lyrica caused me to hallucinate--people's heads looked like lava lamps. I couldn't watch TV for about a year after that because I felt like I was going to have a seizure. I went back to good ole mirapex generic--pramipexole.

When the company was about to lose their patent rights on Mirapex, they looked through 20 years of records and found 6 people who said they got hooked on gambling because of Mirapex. They tried to get it banned, but thankfully didn't succeed.

Robin .. That's hilarious!

daisy .. what is mirapex used for?

Posted by daisys (Member # 11802) on :

Mirapex is used for Restless Leg Syndrome.
