ok, here's the deal. now i consider ya'll family so you can rant and rave all ya want.

i think my gp doesn't really listen to me. after me telling him what reaction i had to cipro he gives me levaquin....which to me says he doesn't (1) either believe me or (2) doesn't understand quinlones or (3) don't know what the heck he is doing (cause he ain't a gastro).

soooo, i have one week of augmentin (amoxy) 500 twice a day.

i've researched it and you can take augmentin for diverticulitis with flagyl.

i'm terrified of levaquin, period. if anyone gets anything damaged, it will be me, period.

so if i have to self-medicate, then i'm willing to do so.

i guess i don't trust him and that's bad, plus i am spending a fortune for meds i can't take.

i know it's a risk to self-medicate but like i've said, i'm not going to take the levaquin, don't want to, and have these meds on hand.

what do you think? heck, if nothing else, it will treat the lyme right?

and stop gritting your teeth.....LOL

Do you think that one week would be enough to treat you? If not, then I wouldn't take it.

I'm not fussing at you, but if you KNEW you weren't going to take the Levaquin, why didn't you just tell him...NO THANK YOU! [Smile]

From now on, you just need to tell any doctor that you go to that you are allergic to them.

That's what I do. Cipro made me so sick one time, and then my husband took Cipro for several months and now he has muscle problems.

We won't take quinolines for anything!!

If you have a good relationship with this doctor, maybe they could call you in enough Amoxy to get rid of your infection.

well i looked at the cipro and it's twice a day so i figure wth!! i have amoxy twice a day and that should work too.

i'm such a wimp. and his nurse is such a -itch. she makes remarks like "you again?" when i go in. i just hate it, HATE IT. she makes me feel like an illiterate child or something under a microscope.

i'm so upset over this that i'm tempted to talk to the pharmacist and then tell the doctor's office "hey my pharmacist says if i can't take the cipro then i sure as heck can't take the levaquin. and use the pharmacist as an excuse to get out of it."

i know, i know, but i'm such a coward.... i try to avoid confrontation at all costs and i hate his nurse...

You have to get a strong backbone with Lyme and company. [Frown] Anything less will bury you. Good luck.

I think Flagyl and Amoxy was the combo that TF's LLMD used to cure her. She said it was a miracle and Amoxy itself did little to help long-term and caused relapse two weeks after stopping it.

Dr H. at the ILADS conference said to always take a cell wall antibiotic eg Ceftin or Amox. along with the flagyl. I have done well taking flagyl with clarithro., zithro, doxy, but did not notice as much happening with Amox. Not saying it does not work for others though. I do think Flagyl is key to getting better for many of us.

Just call them and tell them you can't take the levaquin, period!!

PLEASE make sure you have enough amoxy to take care of the problem. I'm worried about you making things worse on yourself!!

I hate it when doctor's offices make you feel like less of a person. Geez!
