Please take some magnesium glycinate. You can take up to 1000 mg thru out the day. When this has happened to me I take a 200mg mag immediately. You can take up to 400 mg at a time and then take another one about 6 hours later. it helps stop the heart and anxiety. Also take a potassium pill too.
Take it by itself not with calcium otherwise it will not be absorbed.

Definitely get out and buy some magnesium tomorrow!! Hope it helps!

Low magnesium will cause tight muscles, twitches, spasms, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, cardiac arrhythmias.

Foods high in magnesium include almonds, chocolate, and beans.
Baked beans, kidney beans, bean soup, bean burritoes, refried beans.

Is this a new problem, or has it happened before?

I think everyone is right to suggest magnesium. I'd make sure you're not short on other vitamins and minerals, especially B-12 and B-6.

How much caffeine do you consume? Sometimes cutting back or eliminating it helps.

If you are having anxiety and a racing heart and your cycles have been off (by that age, do you mean around perimenopause or menopause?) then I suggest talking to your primary care provider or ob-gyn because both of those symptoms can come with changing hormone levels around perimenopause.

I've had anxiety and racing heart with Babesia, and once I treated the Babs they both improved dramatically. But it's good to look at all angles and take care of what you can - especially if insurance covers it.

transdermal magnesium works excellent

You might want to try some electrolytes with it...I like the mixes for vomiting and diarrhea.

But I wouldn't drink them with the Mag. Maybe an hour or 2 apart.

It's true, the hormonal changes around perimenopause can cause this. Get your hormones checked, you may need help with them.

But first check to make sure that it isn't any med/supplement side-effects or interactions. Those side-effects/interactions can cause that, and it can be serious! I've been there recently.

Also, probably time to see a LL cardiologist. I know of two, if you want the info. ONe in Westcheste, one in Long Island. And another in NYC, but he's hard to get in to see.

Don't mess around with this. And yes to the magnesium, esp transdermal.

IV Magnesium - it's a vaso dialator. Will lower heart rate which will certainly take the edge off the anxiety. If your LLMD won't do, get Ancient Minerals Magnesium oil (apply to skin).

This happened to me when I was first diagnosed. The only thing in the world that calmed me was:

Blending spring water, celery, cilantro, and cucumber and downing it.

It provided quick relief, and was worth me driving my panic'ed arse to the store to get the ingredients. Nothing else helped. No meds. No vitamins. No nothing. It's an electrolyte thing (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and the symbioitic "dance" that's screwed up, that's why I'd say taking one electrolye as stated above might make the imbalance worse, where the foods are naturally balanced).

My attack went on for 5 days straight without ANY sleep, and I'm only 25. My periods were off too. It's all due to the infection and the havoc on the body. Your adrenals are fried.

From then on, eat every 3 hours, meals of turkey breast, canteloupe, and salad greens worked wonders. If you want any other info, message me.

HI Putnum,

Have you had your hemoglobin checked lately? Low hemoglobin can cause a racing heart as the hemoglobin carrys oxygen, your heart pounds to try and distribute the small amount of oxygen in your blood.

Is it possible that you would have any internal bleeding for any reason? I doubt that would be your problem but you may have low hemoglobin.

Take it from me. I was recently in the hospital for internal bleeding (biopsy from colonoscopy wouldn't stop bleeding). My doc looked at my labs and said " I don't know how you are functioning, you have last over 1/3 of your blood"

got bloodwork back today. stress, in peri-menopause caused the heart stuff. Bad tonite, my herbalist gave me something today that I took a little while ago when my heart was going nuts. Its back to normal, but I'm 2 mos without a menstrual cycle, adds to the insanity. Thanks for your replies.

Be well.

My doc says you can't do perimenopause and lyme at the same time. You probably need to be on some hormones to help get you through it.

Probably true!

To elaborate.......going through both is just too much of a strain on the body. Hormones help to relieve many of the symptoms of perimenopause and will make you feel better. At least it has worked for me.

I'll find out hormones to do. Bioidenticals?

lyme in Putnam,

Sorry to hear that Rumigirl and I were both right about the perimenopause and hormones. To go through that on top of Lyme is harder, because drops in certain hormones lead to temporary immune system changes and more infection flares on top of the hormonal flare.

I hope that you find treatment that helps. Please let us know what you decide and update us on how you're doing.
