Currently treating Babesia and Lyme but next will be treating Bartonella as I managed to have a positive test from Quest.

My neurological symptoms were the first to appear and I know this is a sign of Bartonella. Haven't had luck with any other treatment so was wondering if anyone hadn't really seen big improvements until treating Bart.

I saw my biggest improvements with treating Babs.

I did great on Rifampin for Bart, it just wasn't as dramatic.

Anyone else? Any major improvement in brain fog or fatigue with Rifampin or Bart treatment?

Rif is the ticket

LOVED Rifampin!! It helped my neuro symptoms like OCD tendencies, rage, etc. Those seriously improved. However, I didn't treat nearly long enough so those symptoms have returned. =(

How did you all take rif? I just take 1/day at night, and zith 1x/day.

Anyone have nausea, twitches or muscle burning/weakness with Bart?

I took 150mg 1x day. But not with zith.

I have all of those but I never now what symptoms are associated with which infection. I can't ever figure it out.

sick,

That's a low dose isn't it.

I thought it should be higher.

Yes. Unfortunately I am discovering that I have been taking very low doses for the last 11 months, hence my severe decline from being functional to house/bed bound.

And its not from herxing either. I can only think of maybe 2x when I have had a herx reaction....not good.

Anyone else see dramatic results with cognitive or balance problems on Rifampin or bart treatment?

Yes. But the big improvements didn't happen until about month 4. I recovered and got my life back - in 2004. (Dizziness was my first and most debilitating symptom).

The herxes were brutal in the beginning, but I always felt a bit better after a herx than I did before, and over time the herxes decreased significantly in severity.

Bart is a big issue in the tri state area, so hopefully Rifampin will help you too.

I have been on Rifampin for a couple of months. I am doing intermitent IV Rifampin which is far more effective.

I am herxing but My brain fog does not get better. I am going to ask doc to see if we can add something for the brain fog which is my one remaining symptom.

I am hoping that it is hitting - Ehrlichia, Bart, RMSF and Lyme

I was on Rifampin plus Clarithromycin and it helped enormously.

for 4 months and it bumped me to
better now than in 3 years.

balance better and brain fog gone.
short term memory and word retrieval improved.

serious neuro
not all the way but better than a very long time.

Off Rif for a few months with paquinil and clarith instead...but back on Rif with Biaxin in a week to hit Bart again.

I also have an array of herbals, homeopathics, and supplements, detoxes, probiotics, etc and diet

generally based on Burrascano
so have to give credit to the combination of everything.

I have had good success with Rifampin twice. The first time, from my first LLMD, it significantly reduced twitching and began to tackle anxiety and brain fog.

That time, I took it with zith 5 days and doxy 2 days/week. He switched me off after only two months, which in hindsight was probably not optimal.

Three years and many abx combos including levaquin, cipro and factive later, I had a couple months of being on and off abx. I was suddenly finding I couldn't tolerate things I'd taken before.

As the days added up where I couldn't take anything, I got a return of anxiety, twitching, reflux, speech issues and a very strange array of facial twitches and other sensations in my face and scalp.

I have been back on Rifampin with doxy and tindamax for about 6 weeks. I am really pleased with the reduction of all of those symptoms: It lifted my anxiety overnight after about three weeks.

An interesting consideration: My current LD agrees that my former LD did not keep me on the Rifampin long enough in the first place.

But we also talked about the fact that sometimes one abx can be made much more effective by virtue of the combinations you tried before. Just a thought. Good luck.

Good luck.

I'm also currently taking Rifampin, Zith, Plaquenil, and Flagyl (3 days a week on the flagyl).

I have just added the zith to the mix a week ago. After one week I can't say I feel any better. I stopped ceftin when I added the zith. Who knows what the right combo is.

Still having headaches, joint/muscle/tendon weakness and pain.

Been taking Rifampin and Bactrim for 6 months and have noticed no improvements at all.
