Does it really happen? I'm really starting to worry about my youngest daughter. She's always been extremely moody, and she reminds me of me and the way I've acted since I've had lyme.
I know exactly when I got it because of the tic and the EM rash, but at the time I knew nothing about lyme. I had no insurance so I didn't go to the doctor.
That was 10 years ago, and she's seven, so I had it when pregnant with her.
So last week she was put on antibiotics for a respiratory infection, and on about the 4th day up until today (the 8th day), she has been a holy terror.
She gets hysterical over the smallest things and has been incredibly aggressive, attacking her sister and even hitting and kicking me. She has also screamed that she hates her life, hates everyone and wants to die. She keeps slamming doors and throwing things, and has hit herself. She is inconsolable when she cries.
She is normally moody and sensitive and has been since infancy. But her behavior the past several days has been exponentially worse. Normally she has a very sweet side. She is well-behaved at school, and is incredibly intelligent, almost scary-intelligent.
So I was wondering if her acting this way is from the antibiotics, that maybe she has lyme and is having some kind of herx reaction.
Am I being paranoid? Or do you think she may have it? Has anyone's kids been infected in-utero?

I think you really should have her tested. I would also consider lowering her abx dose. Herxing is always unpleasant but it shouldn't be to the point of unbearable..

Unfortunately, the lyme docs I hear speak say that whether the babies come out infected or not depends greatly on if you were treating aggressively during pregnancy. Since you weren't treating then, this points to the reaction being very possibly from lyme.

I didn't know I had Lyme and gave it to both of my boys in utero. One has been mostly fine, keeping it in check and my youngest started falling apart in 5th grade until bedbound in 9th grade and then finally a diagnosis. He is back to school and on his way to wellness. We decided to treat my oldest with a few positive IgeneX bands and we are glad we did. Things we didn't really even think were a problem are going away. I'm sorry you have to go through this. It is a hard, hard thing when our "babies" are sick. My sister is having her 5 year old tested this month and it is just heartbreaking. She didn't know she has Lyme either.

I gave it to both of my kids. It most certainly is possible! My daughter was fine until puberty. My son had more issues as a baby/toddler. He has not gotten mono yet (he will be 16 next week), but when my daughter got it as a Senior she had a really bad case, and then has never been the same. After I finally got my Dx it occurred to me that the extreme change to her personality could be lyme. She turned out to even be CDC +++. Trust your gut, and then trust Igenex.

Just don't be surprised if the testing comes back negative and don't forget to test for coinfections...I had Lyme when I was Pregnant with my son and now I would swear that my son has it. We also know that he was bit and had a bullseye rash a few years back so he had a double wammy, BUT living in Indiana and at that time period their were no LLMD's. Just go by your gut. You know what is right and wrong, make them listen to you...

i had a terrible pregnancy so different from the first but i may have had lyme since before my second.........she does not have any symptoms.....and her primary told us unless she has symptoms they wont test her...........but even if she was positive for past infection but no symptoms.....would even LLMDs treat????

I unknowingly gave it to my daughter. I read in Lyme Times that kids often start to show symptoms at ages 4, 8 and puberty. (Let me know if you want the article citation)
My daughter had her first symptoms at 4, then became deathly ill at puberty. Four years into treatment she is now symptom-free!
Have her evaluated by a Lyme Literate MD or ND please

My son got it, despite being on the Dr J recommended protocol. I think it can be passed in the birth canal even if he was protected in the womb.
Here is what we did...we tested him at Igenex when he was 15 months old. He has a few positive bands but not CDC positive. But, lyme is a clinical diagnosis anyway so my LLMD treated him with 8 weeks of ceftin/zith and told us to look for changes.
My son was exactly like yours...fussy, hard to console, hard to please. He was not pleasant or fun to be with all day long. He was "hard work" to care for is the best way I can describe it. He was also a bit lethargic and tired easily.
About 4 weeks into the abx challenge, we started to see a completely different child. By the 8th week, he was great! Just fun and happy and a total joy to be around all the time. That held until we added a challenge for babesia and now he's back to being a challenge. He could be herxing.
In any case, we know we are not done treating lyme by any means. I would suggest a Igenex test and a minimum 8 week abx challenge to look for changes. All, of course, under the care of a good LLMD.

It's so scary. I was pregnant when the tick bit me on my abdomen. I was given amoxicillin for the time that my baby was in utero, and then he got IV ampicillin and was sent home with oral amoxicillin after his birth. My son tested positive by urine PCR at 10 months for Lyme, and he also showed evidence of ehrlichia and mycoplasma so we treated him for 2.5 years with orals.
He is nearly 8 now and shows no symptoms. But, now I'm scared after reading the above posts that puberty may bring out symptoms.
God help our precious children!

4, 8 and puberty? Well, that is most likely the case for us. My first born was diagnosed last April with lyme, just into puberty. Just got back from pediatrician's with my 8 yr old. Don't know the results there, but after reading the PANDAS info, I think it's bartonella & lyme. We'll see in a week.

4seasons, would you give me a link to the article please? I had undiagnosed Lyme while I was pregnant, and my daughter is now 3 1/2. She seems fine, but I want to know what to look for, if it is different for the kids than it is for us.
You ALL and your beautiful children will be in my thoughts and prayers. I can only imagine how much more difficult it is to be sick and have to care for your sick child. You are all so strong!

Yes it happens. My youngest two I am absolutely convinced were either born with it (and so is my LLMD), or maybe got it from my breast milk. My youngest showing signs as early as 5 months of age (constant head banging).
All three of my kids have LD. It's even possible that I got it from MY mother. Since my twin sister and I both have LD and my mom definitely has had symptoms for decades and was from both California and Rhode Island.

And puberty definitely brought about the symptoms in my oldest, who is almost 18. That is when her muscle twitches and heart issues started.
