i have used it for 30 years and i am still here but i know it can kill you

my original dose was 3200mga day. i took carafete first...then ate...took the ibu...ate some more and then took zantac

i never had problems

i did have problems when they tried to give me the timed release one...so i just use plain old ibu

somewhere along the line they decided to only make 600mg...not 800mg i think cuz of stomach bleeding problems. however, i had a close friend who was a vet and the VA kept giving him the 800s...i guess the surplus went to the VA

now i use fish oil and cosamine and SAMe as well and have had a ton of tx and i only need 1200mg a day

if i didn't take it i am basically back in bed and wheelchair in 3-5 days

i always take with food and maybe that is partially to blame for my extra weight...i don't know...but the scare stories about it are really bad

years ago my workaholic brother started every day with black coffee and ibu and he really messed up his stomach

so this thread is to share info on how you take it...what works...what doesn't...and to be fair i would like to hear the bad stories too.

i know the literature says your stomach can start to bleed and you don't know it or feel it until it is too late to save you.

for me the risk has been worth the alternative...of living in bed...but i am always aware

every time a new nsaid came
on the market i tried it and it was worthless

ketoralac and demerol are the only other meds that work for my pain but i only get them for a short while after surgery because they will destroy kidneys/liver fast(i think thats what they do...i know you can't take them long term)

so please share your experiences here...

this and choosing to use permethrin are the two hardest decisions i have had to make about living with this disease

I need NSAIDS every day. Wonder which is worse for us, Ibu, Naproxin or Tylenol?
Am just starting to use Tylenol instead, but it doesn't help much and I heard it is bad for Lymies due to all the other meds our livers have to deal with.

While channel surfing I did hear Dr. Oz say to take with milk to help coat the stomach.

i'm surprise not more answers

i do use milk but i know many don't do dairy

beagle...do you know it is really bad to take ibu and tylanol at the same time? really bad for liver

it might be any nsaid and tylanol

tylanol just blocks the pain

the nsaids work on the inflammation that is causing the pain

naproxin and celebrex and all the new ones don't touch my pain

I'm an ibuprofen gal! Take it AFTER eating food and drinking milk, always!

None of the others have helped me. Without it I wouldn't be here, the pain would have been too much.
