Has anyone taken Rifampin and noticed some side effects surrounding urine/urinating? I did ready it turns urine a bit orangish or dark, but what about some discomfort below the belly button, in kinda the bladder area? I felt some burning there today. It has since subsided.
I literally just started Rifampin this morning. Also feeling a bit spacey from it I think.
Anyone else get anything like this from Rifampin?

The urine turning orange definitely happens. There is also information with my prescription to not wear contacts while on this drug. It can also turn your tears orange.

Drew, I would report this to your doctor. It' s possible ? the medication is causing some irritation that you may be sensitive to, even where others may not be. We all have different bodies and different responses, to the same thing.
The pharmacy's leaflet should also describe the side effects, albeit in medical terminology (clever of them, eh?) Surely there are some websites where we can look up drug side effects, in plain English?
And now I am going to break you some news which I hope doesn't scare you. But there is a reason why I refused rifampin and had a long talk with my doc before he switched me to another drug.
I read the pharmacy's leaflet about the orange tears, urine, etc and immediately my eyebrows went up.
According to the pharmacy's own handouts, the drug can be "tumorigenic" in pregnant and nursing mothers, so it's not advised in those situations.
Oh, that means other adults are not vulnerable to tumor growth too? Is it the infant or the mother they are concerned about here? If infants are more vulnerable than adults, isn't it at least possible that adults could have incidents too, on occasion?
My doc said that with rifampin, *if* the tumors happen (which does not happen with everybody) they are not cancerous tumors.
Well hey, I didn't want to take the risk, regardless. I think those of us with lyme have lowered immune responses, so we may ? be more prone.
No thank you. That was at least my decision.
I would hate to scare anybody off from something that would help them to get well. And maybe the risk is not enough to be concerned about.
Remember, I am not a doctor, so I can only guess and I don't know.
If you are concerned, you can talk to your doctor about this and how often it happens, or how likely/unlikely it is in your own unique case.
