Can someone let me know which abx cross into the spinal cord? I am having terrible spine pain. This went away when I was on IV abx, but now on orals it's back. It feels like pressure, nerve pain and weak muscles all along the spine.
I am taking rifampin and tindamax, which I thought crossed the BBB easily, but not so sure about the spinal cord?
Does anyone know of any? Maybe minocycline?

My spine pain was associated with babesia. So maybe meds for that would help.

I have those issue and finally had an MRI done. It was arthritis and bulging discs in my lower spine along with a tear and a herniated neck disc.
The ortho said it can cause pain and press the nerves but not the severe pain I am having. He said it was the abx fighting the lyme.
I asked my LLMD and he told me that lyme always hides and attacks areas in our body that have damage or injury or surgery. He must be right since my spine and knee are damaged as well as my the right side of my head that had surgery. The nerve pain and muscle issues are in those areas. So your abx must be working..fighting a battle as he told me.
If it lasts longer than a couple fo weeks he said he will change them or lower the dose to ease the pain.

Lymetoo, I have treated babesia twice, but will look into it again. I know it can be stubborn.
Annier, yes I have noticed that it increases an hour or two after I take my antibiotics. It's amazing how the bacteria knows where your weak spots are, but that seems correct. I had a minor back injury last year when the spine pain first started, then the nerve pain just got worse and worse. It finally improved on IV abx. Now a year later, I decided to do a yoga class again that worked my back muscles and maybe strained the injury a little bit. What do you know a few days later I get the same awful nerve pain that I had last year. It was like I injured it slightly again and then a few days later the lyme "found" the injury and started going crazy.
How do they do that? That may call for a separate post.

My LLMD said Minocycline crosses the blood/brain barrier. It worked for me and in order to reach the brain, the meds have to enter the CSF.
