I saw my LLMD for the first time today. He took blood to check for co-infections and added azith to my doxy, saying he believes I probably have Bart. Has anyone used this combo with success, I have seen other ones for Bart on here, not this.

Zith and Doxy would kill bartonella in the same way, by stopping it from replicating (bacteriostatic), but from what I know you need to be on something that outright kills it (bacteriocidal), like Rifampin, because bacterostatic alone isn't enough. It will at least get your levels down, though! Bart is one of my main problems and I experienced a LOT of improvement just on Doxycycline alone. He may add Rifampin or something else later on.
Also, FYI, you canNOT rule out bartonella just by testing. It shows up less than 20% of the time even if it's blatantly obvious. *points to self*

Little Olive..uggh dont say the word rifampin to me. I am still trying to get over the effects of 2 doses!!
It surely does kill bart but between the omnicef and zithro I was one and the adding it to the mix I had a severe and dangerous herx. I think it is best to take the doxy and zithro for awhile to cut down some of the lyme before attacking bart too.

It's the best overall antibiotic for bartonella, but starting slow is necessary. I know a lady who had to start at just 50mg and build her way up. You are one of "those" cases annier. (Also your mailbox is full, you need to clear some stuff out because no one can reply to your PMs. )

Hm, so zith hits bart? Maybe my cycling digestive pains/consitipation/heartburn are bart herxs caused by taking azithromycin? I'm only taking 250mg 3 times a week, with ceftin twice a day.
I thought the heartburn might be from the ceftin, but skipping a few days of ceftin doesn't seem to have any effect.

Zithro treats Lyme, mycoplasma, Babesia, and bartonella...probably other things, too! It gives me digestive problems if I take it without a meal.

OI do not think Zithro is not a primary abx for bart, but does provide some minor coverage along with Lyme. It did give me tinnitus. Stop at the first sign of it. My Bart did not start getting better until I went on Rifampin and then 1 month later adde Septra. Those two in combo are the most recommended (at lease by Dr B's protocol).

Been on Zithro & Plaquenil but LLMD says those are for the Lyme? But all my reading says Zithro does hit Bart. ?
again, everything seems so convaluted the longer I am sick and the more I learn, the more I doubt what Godforsaken disease this is!

Zithro definitely hit bart, but the bacteria will become resistant pretty quickly, so it's best used in combination when treating chronic infections like ours.
Rifampin and Zithro are a common combination.

Doxy and zithro is a protocol for chlamydophylia pneumonia ( which has nothing to do with lungs - it is in the bloodstream).
Cpn is very often a co-infection to lyme. If you herx on doxy and zithro it may also be a herx from cpn. Details on cpnhelp.org.

Ironically, the combination of Rifampin and Zithro is ALSO a highly effective treatment for C. pneumoniae!
