Child will be starting Doryx--wondering how the dose is processed in the body, i.e., when does the dose start taking effect?

i felt in about 4 or so hours after taking it. i landed on the floor and couldnt get up. dunno how it works

Doryx is not really a time release type med, it is designed to not start breaking down until it reaches the small intestine. This is done so that it will not cause the stomach irritation that doxy is so well known for.
After having such a hard time with the regular doxy (stomach wise) I've had no problems with Doryx. It is extremely expensive though, so you need to have good insurance.

Oh, I forgot to mention, you still have to be careful and avoid dairy, mineral supplements about an hour before and after taking any doxy, including Doryx. They affect how well it is absorbed.

Looking back on your question...how fast will you see effects? As with most oral meds, they get into your system on average within about a half an hour. As far as when you might start herxing, that is extremely individual.

Just wanted to jot down the info the manufacturers and pharmacists gave me for anyone looking at this in the future:
Both manufacturer and pharmacist said that it is a time released med, thus it will skip the stomach and start being dissolved in the intestine. Once in the intestine, pellets will dissolve throughout the day at different times--so a continuous amount is in the blood stream.
Pharmacist said probiotics and other supplements can still be given 2 hours after taking it, just as would be the case with regular Doxy--I tried to push for a fuller answer on this, since it still didn't make sense to me (ie, if the pellets are still in the intestines dissolving at unknown times, how can giving probiotics two hours after taking it not effect the probiotics?)--pharmacist seemed "done" with wanting to answer my questions--sigh!--
Anyway, take this info for just a possible answer--obviously clear all info with your own LLMDs and/or pharmacists before making your decisions.
