I had a very long day at my LLMD today so I will make this short.

I started Bicillin shots and he wants to give them to me 3X a week.

It didn't hurt during but a few hours later-OUCH!

I would welcome any feedback and/or advice on how to get through this treatment.

I have had a rough road with Lyme for almost 4 years now and have been on a lot of abx. including IV Rocephin.

I am hoping and praying that the Bicillin is effective. I am also starting on Tindamax.

Any words of wisdom?

GTG to sleep! (On my right side!)

Thanks

L.

: ( Laurie.

My son Finn had one a few weeks ago and had no trouble. My son Aidan, however, was sore for many days. Finn wasn't scared, Aidan was. Finn is younger, and I kind of lied about how much it would hurt. Aidan is 14, and his little brother told him that it hurt.

It makes me wonder if stress hormones make it much worse. And Aidan has a lot more leg fascia damage from his lyme. Finn, not so much (he is only 6).

I wonder if you could try some EFT tapping to make it easier? I am allergic to penicillan (theoretically), so I've never tried them. I hope that other people have some ideas.

Laurie: I have been on them for about 7 months -3x per week. The first few weeks were tough for the soreness. However, my friend that is a nurse that gives them to me realized it is a lot less painful to give them to me slowly (pushing slowly) and she said that the Bicillin is very viscous and going slow helps with this. Also, I ride the stationary bike for five minutes after the shot to get the muscle moving. It will get easier but I tell you what- the going slow made all of the difference for me. Thinking of you-

Laurie - I take mine with Lidocane mixed in. (well I have to mix it from separate syringes, etc) TOTALLY numbs it inside - injecting the lidocane portion of the syringe part and then waiting a minute then pushing the Bicillin slowly over 5 min period then massaging it.

I just started it a few weeks ago so I have yet to see how effective it will be but I'm hoping for the best!

I used to give them shots to myself and found there were two keys to making them virtually painless. First, ice the area for a few minutes (then when numb and the needle goes in, you don't even feel it). Secondly, you must go very, very slowly in pushing the bicillin in. I used to have someone sit with me to set a timer to make sure I didn't go to fast. It should take at least 5 minutes, as stated above. If you go to fast it turns into a hard lump and gets sore. Also, take the bicillin out 15 minuts before you are going to use it so it warms up again. Many people have felt great results with Bicillin. Good luck! Be brave [Smile] You'll be feeling better soon! I thought that tindamax and bicillin were a good combo for me. I hope you get good results too!

I have been on it for 3 weeks, and I get really sorebtoo. A knot forms in my muscle. I started massaging it for about 10 minutes after the injection, lying down. This helps a ton. Also, I have a book called" Stretching" that has some stretches for your hips. Some work really well, others not so much. But the massage right after the shot made it so it was hardly sore at all. Good luck, I have heard some good things about bicillin. So far for me, my brainfog gets worse everyday, so I don't know how it is treating me. I'M trying to have patience.

I was told that soaking in a warm bath, or placing a warm compress would help.

I tried that because I had a knot within an hour of injection... OUCH! 5minutes for the injection??? really? The nurse took less than one. And it was bruised.

I have had one set of injections so far. I am suppose to go in weekly. I am hoping that I might get the doctor to let me do the injections at home and just come in monthly for blood work. It's a three hour drive to his office.

There is a numbing cream called emla you can get by rx you put it on about 1.5 hours before the injection..at that time i take the shot out of the fridge to warm up. I did 2.4 mu 3x a week for about 14 months. After awhile your bum gets used to it. I am currently doing 1.2mu 3x a week. I personally have my hubby inject it as fast as it will go.

Thats how i prefer it. Ice made things worse for me. I do like to sit in a warm bath sometimes after. Thats prob the most helpful thing i do. Just wanted to mention that the cream does not numb the inside just the skin. It takes bicillin several months to see any good results, i would say at least 5-7 months. You need to be patient with these.

I have a rather large butt, so not sure if thats why i have less pain. I dont even notice it anymore. Sometmes it stings going in. For me when i start the shots i get super bad fatigue and body pain. Good luck.
