Just picked up Rx of 100mg Doryx at pharmacy for my 9yr old...before picking up any new meds I always look up the size and shape to be sure a child can swallow it.
I see that Doryx 100mgs comes in pill and capsules form listed on the manufactuers info. But when I went to the pharmacy they told me NO it only comes in pill size...which is TO Large for any child to swallow.
I had to leave the pills behind...ugggh
Has anyone filled doryx in capsule form?? My pharmacist is an idiot!!

Although listed on their site in tablet + capsule, I thought I read they may have discontinued the capsule form. I could be wrong, but that could be the reason your pharmacist didn't have it.
What you can do is ask the pharmacist or contact the manufacturer and see if it can be split. Usually with forms of meds like that, you shouldn't split them. But if using a pill cutter, it may be at least good enough. I'd expect even a split Doryx would be more stomach friendly that regular Doxy.

Because it's time released, I would think the caplet should not be cut.

The capsules aren't sold in the United States...only tablets.

Lymetoo your right....The pills CAN"T be cut or crushed because of time release.
I haven't seen anywhere where the capsule is discontinued or NOT for sale in US?

Yep...Doryx in capsule form has been discontinued due to C-Diff issues. Uggggh
Doryx still available in pill form just NOT capsule...and NOT kid size friendly to swallow since the pill Can"T be cut or crushed...so I'ts back to doxy for us
Do they make a lower dose pill that might be smaller in size? /maybe take 2 50mg pills instead of one big one?
ETA: Never mind. I just looked it up and the lowest dose is 75mg.
As for not breaking the pill, I would think you couldn't but it has this to say on Drugs.com.
"Do not crush, break, or open a delayed-release capsule (Oracea). Swallow the pill whole. Breaking or opening the pill may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. The enteric coated pill has a special coating to protect your stomach. Breaking the pill will damage this coating.
You may break up a Doryx tablet and sprinkle it into a spoonful of pudding or applesauce to make swallowing easier. Swallow right away without chewing"
This is what is stated on rxlist.
"Sprinkling the tablet over applesauce
DORYX Tablets may also be administered by carefully breaking up the tablet and sprinkling the tablet contents (delayed-release pellets) on a spoonful of applesauce. The delayed-release pellets must not be crushed or damaged when breaking up the tablet. Any loss of pellets in the transfer would prevent using the dose. The applesauce/DORYX mixture should be swallowed immediately without chewing and may be followed by a glass of water if desired. The applesauce should not be hot, and it should be soft enough to be swallowed without chewing. In the event that a prepared dose of applesauce/DORYX Tablet cannot be taken immediately, the mixture should be discarded and not stored for later use."
I would talk to the pharmacist and see if sprinkling over applesauce would be okay. If there is a certain way you are to do it, maybe s/he can show you.
