Please help!

Idk what is going on.

I am 26 weeks pregnant. I take lots of meds for lots of reasons.

I have severe insomnia. Been like that for years. I have been taking ambien for years. If i dont take it, i dont sleep at all. I think i would be awake forever. I hve taken it my whole pregnancy. My doctors know and say its fine b/c i have to sleep.

I also have sleep apnea. I have to wear a cpap all night. If i dont i stop breathing about every 5 min. My oxygen goes down, and therefore baby doesnt get enough either.
plus i will wake myself up to breathe again, so i am never rested.

But about the last 4-6 weeks, i have the most horrible neuropathies in my feet and legs. I have had them before being preg, so its not realy new, but they were gone. So the neuropathies really get going when i try to go to sleep. It feels like my feet are burning.

Then i get creepy crawly, tingly, shocks and tickles shoot up my legs. Its so bad it causes like restless legs and i have to move them. I do finally fall asleep at some point.

But like an alarm is set, at about 330am every night, my feet and legs wake me up. Then it doesnt go away. It keeps me up for at least 2 hours. Sometimes i take a benadryl, sometimes ativan. I do feel restless when it happens.

Nothing i do helps at all. No tylenol, oxycodone, magnesium, iron, b12 NOTHING. i used to take a warm bath to relax but now its making my feet feel worse. Sometimes my feet are ice cold and white as a sheet. So cold they hurt. But then they are sweaty. I dont get it.

Then when i finally fall back to sleep, the next time i wake up, i am soaked in sweat. Dripping wet. I have to change and bathe. It feels so gross.

I have never tested positive for babesia. I have bern treated in the past. I just had a babesia test just through quest and it was negative. No doc is going to treat me for babesia w/o a positive test while preg.

I do have diabetes, on insulin, and my sugars are a touch high, nothing crazy.

So what is going on? What do i do? While i am desperate for relief, i will be honest and tell you i wont take any herbs,.not going to happen. I cant take neurontin and lyrica. I really dont want to add anymore meds, my poor baby is going to come out poisoned as it is.

Is this hormones, lyme, co's , diabetes? I havent slept through the night in months. I do have the neuropathies in the day too but they dont seem as bad then.

I just dont get it, and i am helpless to stop it!

I have the neuropathy----burning feet & burning skin, cold feet that are so cold they hurt, muscle twitches primarily in my calf muscles (sometimes other places, but mostly calf muscles), and floaters in my eyes. My doc thinks they are primarily Bart and Lyme together. Bart can sometimes cause night sweats---Babs can also. Sounds like you have the evil trio---Lyme, Bart & Babs. Treat the Babs first, then Bart & Lyme at same time.

After your baby is born you have to treat for parasites. I am not sure if this would be safe during prgnancy. When you feel after short time that it gets so much better, you will believe.

I wonder if some of the leg and feet feelings are from nerve compression. You could try sleeping with a small squishy pillow under your thigh/knee area if you sleep on your back. If you sleep on your side put the pillow between your knee/thigh area. This will help keep the spine more properly aligned.

Have you tried topical Mag on your legs before bed? It might help relieve the restless leg sensations since it would be absorbed locally.

The cold then sweaty feet make me think hormones or autonomic neuropathy. You could try sleeping with thin cotton socks on. Then you might not wake up so readily from the cold or sweaty feeling. I like to sleep without socks but my feet are always cold and feel like ice cubes so if one foot touches the other leg it wakes me up. Sleeping with thin socks helps prevent that.

Hang in there. Just a couple more months and you get to hold that sweet baby in your arms!

I would look into receiving IVIG if I were you, seems to work wonders for neuropathies

In the group lymestrategies is someone with your problem and pregnant - maybe you should contact her. It is about salt/C.

my doc has given me elavil 10 mg for sleep and it really helps. but when i'm in pain it doesn't do squat.

can you take it if you're pregnant?
