For the women out there -

I was wondering - since Babesia attacks the red blood cells, if menstruating changed women's symptoms?

Since blood is lost, it might make an anemic woman with sick RBCs, even more anemic? Or is it a way to shed the sick blood cells?

If you have anemia with Babesia, should you be taking iron supplements?

thanks,
racer

I guess I'll take that as a probably 'no' as far as personal experiences go... I was just thinking that there must be some impact or relationship.

I believe there is a relationship between babesia and menstruation for obvious reasons. When I started treating lyme, my bab sx flared, and my female area has been a lot more sensitive, even hurting during intercourse.

Just got a pap done, waiting for results. I had some strain of HPV when 17-20 years old. Paps returned to normal for a long time, haven't had one done since 2007 though.

Crossing fingers.

Also. I was anemic when about 14 years old. Didn't think i had lyme or babs then though. Not sure how long i've been sick.

I am not anemic now and my RBC's look ok. NOt sure what that means...just throwing in an anecdote.

hum... could babs symptoms actually be hormonal excess? for example i know babs sx increase before and in the beginning of my menstruations, but actually i do not think they are from babs but from excessive testosterone which i have... that is about the only think that is wrong with my body, so it has to be related...

The first time I was treated for Babs, I had the period of a lifetime. 6 weeks and very heavy, thought I would die of blood loss. My outer upper left leg hurt like hell. Went through a few gyn visits, they found nothing.

I'm also at the age where my periods are going to be a little wacky, so was it babs or a coincidence?

I don't get the cramps I used to get so I figure the lyme treatment really helped that. My migraines went away too. Yee haw!

My RBC is typically normal, it's the WBC that is usually a little low. I do not supplement iron except for what is in my multi. The easy bruising is from Babs, or so I hear.

Also if you have PCOS, it dramatically increases the symptathetic nervous system activity thus generating nerve pain, shortness of breath, all kinds of weird symptoms that we sometimes mix with babs sx...
here's an article on how electro acupuncture may help...:
