hey folks,

i've just read some expierences from some chronic lyme patients who have stopped ABx after long term treatment and first got worse, then better.

i wanted you to give me your expirience.. is that always the way it goes after stopping ABx? Do you first get worse and then better?? Like a "flare up" after stopping. Or du you get immediatly better after stopping?

Hi daniel,
Good question. I'm wondering the very same thing. I just completed 8 months of antibiotic therapy. Alternate weeks I was on Zithromax and Rifampin; alternating with Artemisinin (not a pharmaceutical) and Cefdinir (Omnicef). This is my third or fourth go-round with antibiotics.

So I stopped just 3 days ago. Happy to be off them, but feeling odd. Very tired mentally and physically, can't seem to pick myself up and get going, feeling toxic.

So I just took it easy, vegged out, and have been drinking some detox tea. I think I'll need some detoxing in the bath, too.

After a few weeks of being off the antibiotics, my doctor is having me start the Cowden Condensed Protocol. He says that it has a very high success rate, and is helpful to use after completing antibiotic therapy, as it will find the various forms of borrellia that may be hidden and lingering. It helps to prevent relapse after completing antibiotic therapy.

I'll be interested to hear what folks have to say about stopping the ABX.

Good health to you.

My daughter was forced to go off abx after 7 months due to high liver enzymes.. At first she did not feel very well and would have intermittent flares. After 2 months those flares decreased to where she felt better than when she started abx treatment.. That was 6 months ago and she is still doing well. Any lingering symptoms are being treated with herbs and she is mostly 85%+ better most days..

I have posted her regimen several times on here, if you would like to do a search. Just keep in mind the same regimen does not work for everyone. Her regimen is very different from mine and I'm doing well on mine as well.

Lulu that's awesome

Thanks, LSG.. The toxicity from the abx takes time to clear your system, so that would explain many of the symptoms that occur immediately after stopping. Giving it time eventually allows the organs to heal and supporting the immune system keeps them healing and staying strong.

How long would you give the antibiotics to heal. Been off since September and having a rough time (keep in mind it was a vicious 6 day rifampin dose and iv zithro that finally got me off.) Good for you. I've done iv since 2004 about 3 or 4 times with months in between when dormant. ???? Good for you lulu and your daughter. How long have you had lyme and cos?

I think if you have been treating for several years, it will take some time to allow your body's immune system to kick in and work the way it's meant to. When my daughter was forced to stop abx she could not take anything for 1 month. Her enzymes were 16X normal. Within 2.5 months they were back to normal. Our bodies are meant to heal and I've always believed that.

Whatever organs are being affected, those are the ones that should be supported along with immune support.

I have been ill for at least 10 years and probably longer.. I know how it can ravage your body but with supplemental support, diet and exercise you can get your life back.

I agree with everything lululymemom posted above because my experience is very similar.

I don't remember all of my on/off abx cycles but pattern of ups and downs is the same.

I am off abx for 3 weeks and for the first time I was not afraid of the fact that my LLMD put me on abx vacation. I just felt I need to take time off.

Flare ups of symptoms take longer time to show up and symptoms are not that intensive as in previous cycles.

Thought I'd chime back in. Today is day 4 off of 8 months of rotating ABX. I'm not feeling good. Irritable, edgy, negative (I hate that!).

So I took a detox bath this morning. It felt good, but after getting out I'm a little worse. Had to have something to eat, and drink water. Hard to get focused. Had to cancel going to my beloved yoga class, and opt for a walk outside soon.

Anyone know if Burbur will help?

Take care.

Absolutely, burbur will help with the toxin release.. That was one of the best products we have used for detox.

coffee71, good to see that you took the chance to go off the abx even for a short period. It will not set you back, only do you good.

I'm of antibiotics going for the forth week.

And I'm on minimum suplements to just on multivitamin ,magnesium, garlic ,monolaurin and take whey protein when I exercise.

Do not have any problem at all.

Still have some symptoms left burning fingers of my feet and skratching of my legs from knee down same with my arms and rarelly mosquito bite sensation and need to skratch after that.

I think I'm not cured yet since I still have symptoms mention above and they are very stubborn.
