My LLMD has me on IV rocephin, wants me on for a minimum of 8 weeks, says maybe much longer..

Insurance just sent a letter after 4 weeks saying they will pay for no more...

Anyone have any ideas on how to get assistance with getting this Abx cheap? I'm totally broke living with sister...

Thanks for any advice, help.... Roger (IN)

Contact Infuserve Pharmacy. They generally have the best prices on IV meds and supplies.

http://www.infuserveamerica.com

With Infuserve you do have to pay up front but they will submit the bill to your insurance co for reimbursement through the "major medical" part of your plan. Sometimes insurance co's will pay this way when they otherwise refuse to cover IVs.

There is a thread in the General section here called "quick links to popular topics", check it out because in there is another link to "suggestions for when you need treatment and funds are low". You may be able to find some more help there.

Go to Roche needy meds. they supplied me (with a doctors script)with free rocephin. I had to purchase the saline, dressings and all the other supplies you'll need.

There's also a site called Needymeds.

Our insurance did this same thing. Check to see if they will still cover supplies. Ours covered all supplies but not the abx. They did not tell me this at first. Hope this helps.

Just checked with Needy Meds, they say they don't carry rocephin or the generic either...

Great news! Well, medically/financially speaking...

I have been approved by the local hospital and have been accepted as a charity case. kind of tells you where I am financially though...

They are willing to help me with my IV meds, supplies and care...

Can't tell you how much this means, took sooooo much stress away when I heard the news...

got my first dose tonight!

I tried all the above mentioned resources and was told they either didn't deal with IV rocephin or that I didn't qualify..

Thanks for all your help, now there is only one thing left to do.. GET WELL!!!!!! and I will!

Thanks again, Roger

Yeah!! Terrific!

Just to know, in case you need to continue longer & the hospital stops helping later on: what sammy said is true. Very often, if you buy out of pocket from Infuserve, and you have them bill your insurance company under Major Medical, the insurance co will pay. They won't tell you ahead of time that they will pay, and you may have to get on them to process it correctly, but they usually do pay. It's not a guarantee, but it's an important little=known fact.

Did anyone get their doctor to administer a PICC line while letting you use Rocephin from another source?

My LLMD was ok with me getting rocephin from anyplace... She had a preference but that was just a convenience thing...

Can you PM me what part of the country you're in? I'm in Kansas City... I don't really have any other options.
