My 7 year old son recently had blood work done and his ammonia was 76 and the upper normal range should be 47. We have been treating parasites - do you think increase can happen from parasite die off? What else could cause this?

How can we detox it or get it to normal levels? I wonder if it could be causing some motor tics or neuro issues. We notice when we insrease his parasite meds, his tics seem to get worse.

Please share any herbs or meds or treatments you know to help normalize this.

thanks,

tickbattler

Any detoxing/die-off can cause this. Since I was threatened by management and moderators that I will be banned if I post any protocol, please contact me privately. You have my e-mail.

l-ornithine and yucca are two things i've read can decrease ammonia levels. i've been using both, but haven't gotten my blood ammonia levels measured.

Dr J of KS has a product, Neuro-Antitox II, which is supposed to work specifically on ammonia in the brain.

My son has significant detox issues at times with particular meds- this time it was Quintessence causing havoc (neuro issues, panic attacks etc). I think it is parasite killing which causes the problems for him.Detox measures we have used for my son (he has a COMT methylation problem) include :
Beyond Balance Clarity K
Energetix Pure Body Clear
Beyond Balance Tox-Ease & Tox-Ease II
Readisorb Liposomal Glutathione
Thorne Methylguard
Lots of mercury free fish oils and evening primrose oil (calms inflammation)
Nutramedix Parsley and Burbur
Detox baths with peroxide and magnesium

The measures we use to detox him change and are tested for him energetically each time, so it is a particular solution for him. But still, there may be some ideas here for you to try for your son

Hubby had this problem back in 2003 the first time he did IV Rocephin. He tried all the natural things and nothing worked.

Look up hepatic encephalopathy -- that pretty much describes his symptoms from the elevated blood ammonia. Symptoms were very obvious if he ate high protein meals.

In my opinion it is probably not the dieoff itself that is causing this, but an overall imbalance in the gut bacteria.

What worked for hubby was the medication levaquin -- at that time it reversed the elevated blood ammonia issue, but did next to nothing for the bartonella in the brain.

Hubby did also test for elevated klebsiella and other bad G.I. bacteria which are ammonia producing. Levaquin is specific for many of those bacteria.

And yes, hubby was even taking VSL #3 at the time but that did not prevent the Rocephin from causing dysbiosis.

After one day of parasite meds, I had a lot of ammonia. I found that green clay mixed with juice or water (1/2 tsp to 1 tsp) worked well. So do activated charcoal, capsules. However, these will cause constipation and they need to be taken at least 4 hours away from suppplements or medicines as they will bind those as well.

Dr J of KS makes a formula to get rid of ammonia that seems to work well. It has pale spike lobelia in it, which I think can be hard on the liver.

Oops--Sorry, Lymetoo. I forgot Dr. J was a LLMD, but it is actually his ex-wife who sells the products. She is a chiropractor, but I guess I can't use her name, either.

I would post the website, but it has the name in it. [loco] The product I used was called CNS/PNS Antitoxin II.

Thank you all for your help! We had an appointment today with our EDS practitioner and she confirmed the elevated ammonia. Borage oil tested well to normalize it. He also tested well for Bentonite clay but I didn't check it against the ammonia to see if it specifically helped with that.

We have the calcium bentonite living clay. So when is the best time to give this? I figure 1/2 tsp per day for him (he's only 50 lbs). So the clay can cause constipation? I will probably not give it every day. It will be tough to give it 4 hours away from meds because he gets supplements with every meal! Can it be taken on an empty stomach?

Thanks,

Hiker, websites are fine, we can't help that the name is in a website address.

Hulda Clark recommends L-ornithine. She has passed away so I guess it's OK to have her name on here.

landerss,
That's interesting what you say about Yucca.

Is it the sapponins that mop it up?

Clay can be taken with Metamucil(unflavored) to help with constipation and chased with lots of water.

It doesn't have to be 4 hours away from meds/ supplements.

It is to be taken on an empty stomach

Gosh, I remember the smell from urine of ammonia...so strong that I thought I was going to passout.

But I don't remember if it was during parasite cleanse or just some other kill off.

Hiker, you are too funny.

Look into the methylation cycle. A1298C mutation can cause low BH4 which is needed to detoxify ammonia. Low levels of BH4 may also be associated with high levels of parasites.

Another mutation that can cause excess ammonia is the CBS upregulation. There are protocols to help deal with these issues. My LLMD tested me for these through Dr. Amy Yasko.

Do a google search for Dr. Yasko and methylation. She has a group.

Other than Jernigans formula are there any other good ways to mop up ammonia in CNS?

ornithine

Tickbattler,

I read this the other day and found this interesting.

Both of our kids have tics (granted we were both on the GSE). May not be related. May be due to parasites.

But, your child tested well with Borage oil to normalize it. I found this fascinating because Dr. K gave my son Primrose oil which I just researched and it has Borage oil in it.

So, can you let me know how you resolved the ammonia issue. Did the oil and clay foot baths work, or did you have to look into the Methylation cycle? If the methylation cycle...what was the outcome?

Thanks,

2roads

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/50278?

Galactose is effective as mitochondrial support and draining ammonia from the brain. Dr. K. put an autistic boy on it who had never spoken a word in his life. After five days on Galactose, he started to spill out whole sentences.

I brought it back after having heard about it in Germany from the researcher at Berlin Charitee University. It is also effective with cancer.

Read the link above and get bored! But it certainly works.

Google Prof. Reutter Berlin Charitee Galactose. You will learn that it has a lot to do with
our BRAIN!

Take care.

I have it in my arsenal and whenever it tests energetically, I take a teaspoon full. It also tastes great!

GiGi,

Does D-Ribose function similar to D-Galactose?
I know they are both mono-saccharides - didn't know if both have mitochondrial/ATP effects

Canefan, I don't know. If it were the case, Dr. K. would use it. He doesn't.

Yes-- i used yucca," natures way"....something like that. Its only like 5$ a bottle.

L-Ornithine users, do you use a powder or encapsulated powder?

If you use powder, is it bitter?

I have used a powdered essential amino supplement that was very bitter and I don't want to repeat that experience.

Has no taste

Yucca tastes kindof icky, so if you try that, make sure it is in capsules...

Yucca helps me with ammonia, so does Nettles, Molybdenum, and Magnesium. I haven't tried L-Ornithine.

2roads,

My son's tics are almost gone - and he is still on GSE twice/day! They are going away because we have been treating his lyme and his many parasites.

I never retested his ammonia but he now tests for borage oil right again. Probably because he is on Dr. K's parasite protocol and there is die off going on.

I use Jernigan's CNS/PNS Formula as well. It always works wonders for any neuro problems associated with excess ammonia.

Thanks everyone and Tickbattler.

Maybe what occurred was because I mixed the Enula with the GSE in a glass with water to drink. Maybe it changed into some other chemical compound.

The enula was alcohol based and the GSE water/glycerin based.

Maybe I had some bad cross reaction in the glass.

Not sure why the GSE wasn't in alcohol. Maybe there was a chemical reason, and I put it into an alcohol medium making it toxic.

Any chemists on board that have a thought?

I will post a second thread on it.
