Heck in KY they can't even practice above the table and suggest supps, vit or rife without getting their butts questioned by the powers of gov.
Colonics must be RXed by a MD. They mustn't call you Dr. They can't analyze blood smears with Darkfield.
It is pretty pathetic in KY. Insurance won't pay for body work unless you have cancer and use that hospital for all your chemo and radiation.
Chiro is very restricted. If it's not with one of those fancy degrees that come from those very educated schools....you aren't allowed to treat me. Acupuncture or other alternatives are not paid for by major insurance carriers.
It doesn't matter if the degree is in Stupidity, insurance will only pay for me to go to ID to treat my lyme & co.
If ID laughs and says I'm crazy....mental issues are dealt with separate from true medical issues. I'm only allowed to be a little crazy and have tx so many times a year.
No wonder people in this state are so high on the sickest of all state's list. Insurance companies practically refuse to help change lives except with those with them really smart initial after name. MD?
Most MDs do it the easy way and label us depressed and rx depression meds left and right. Ky people aren't stupid, they know they are ill but they can't find a doctor to help them.
So they lead a sickly life labeled as lupus, MS, depression, dementia, ALS, Parkinson, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia etc and get all the great BP meds that go with that label.
Pay big bucks for Rxes that only try to hide their troubles. No way would they tell you about alternative tx.
Large percentage of MD's don't care if you get well or not. They live in a box and treat in the box. Wouldn't want to send patients to the quacks without the impressive degrees hanging on the wall.
Insurance companies won't pay so patients stay in the box. So sad.
Everytime our state legislaters gets a bill to let more alternative tx be allowed/changed...it's rejected. Wonder why? Who might be paying under the table to keep that mentality going?

I think in CA there's two categories - those licensed to do so and those not. Two different trainings and types of schooling. Got to ask each ND which they are.

I've gotten IV abx prescribed by my LLND without any problems.
Here in WA, ND's can prescribe just about anything as long as it isn't a controlled substance (narcotic pain meds, a few other meds).

As others have stated, it depends on state laws. In Maine and New Hampshire, yes, they can.
The problem comes in that some states allow you to call yourself a ND without any medical school. They are more trained in Naturopathic herbs.
The ND you are discussing will be a doctor that went to Medical school like the rest of the doctors but instead of specializing in Surgery or Neurology, etc, they specialize in Naturopathic Medicine.
I was told that basically they can prescibe anything other than Narcotics, but there still may be some exceptions to the rule.
If in doubt, you can always call and ask the office of the doctors qualifications and restrictions.

No they cannot prescribe in NY, PA or CT as far as I know.
