Dr. D was one of the dissenting infectious disease Lyme experts on the original IDSA guideline committee. He was the one they interviewed who said that they were supposed to discuss late-stage and chronic Lyme but never got around to it.

He seems to advocate long-term oral antibiotics, particularly tetracycline rather than doxycycline, or a combo of clarithromycin (Biaxin) and hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), over the use of long-term parenteral beta-lactams.

Anybody have success with this treatment for Lyme?

Those papers look a little dated. I can't read the date at the bottom, but it either says 2003 or 2005.

I'm guessing that these are not his current procedures, and that he probably advocates higher dosages of antibiotics now. I feel more inclined to trust Dr. B's guidelines.

Lymetoo and Abxnomore, what do you base those statements on? As a moderator and frequent contributor responding to a newbie, I would expect a little more info than what you posted. I'm curious why so quick to say that is not the road to go.

Dr. B. didn't change his guidelines very much between 2005 and 2008. Everyone is still learning and every body is different.

I just want to add that I enjoy watching Dr D speak, because he always makes a big smile after everything he says! [Smile] May God bless him.
