Is there a test I can do on my own ( purchase ) that will be a good indicator of a problem with mercury?

I have asked my doctor several times about being tested, but he always tells me I'm too sick right now to do the test. Says the stuff used to draw mercury out of tissues would be too hard on me right now.

Is there another way I can do this?

I did a hair analysis a few years ago but I think it was a dud.

I would do the hair analysis again. The one at Doctors Data is just $46 and will show your toxic metals as well as your mineral levels (so important to know.)

All you need is for the doc to write on his blue prescription pad 'Hair Elements Test', then just fax it to Doctor's Data and they will mail you the kit. I think it's a really good test.

Best to you.

Is it true that if it doesn't show up in the hair, then that means your body is hanging onto it?

And if it's in the hair, that means your body knows how to get rid of it?

I don't think my doc will write a script for hair analysis. He's the one who said the hair test I had before wasn't reliable, although it wasn't Doctor's Data. He's all into that DMSA (or whatever the letters are) to test metals.

I was hoping I could do a test without needing him.

Not sure about FL but most naturopaths can order the Doctor's Data test. Mine keeps the kits in her office.

Be SURE they check off to have base minerals tested. As Tammy said, that is key. If no heavy metals are showing up in the hair and your minerals are messed up - that's a good indication of heavy metal toxicity.

Find someone who knows how to read the test results.

I did the hair analysis and it came back with almost no mercury. Continued to think I had issues went to another doc who did the DMPS 5 hour challenge test. Came back very mercury toxic, 22 on Doctors Data.

So for some, the hair test is unreliable because the body is holding on to the metals because there are not enough minerals to park in the cells, according to Dr. K.

I used Mercout.com for a month. They have an oral DMPS challenge that is sent to doctors data. I think it is around $80.

I have done 18 DMPS infusions so far and noticed feeling better after the last three. I will do two more and get tested again to see where I am.

Note that mercury can come off in layers and the test is not an actual mercury load but a representation of what the DMPS can get at. I was low for lead until about my 10 infusion and then lead toxicity was revealed.

I met a lady that has had 45 infusions. She started very high mercury toxicity (50 doctors data) and brought it down but the chart was not a smooth one. It was like she was hitting pockets of mercury, her description not mine.

You can also use oral DMSA 24 hour challenge test. You can buy DMSA from vrp.com and get a copy of the book by Cutler, PhD. However I would look for a professional that can administer the oral test, the reason your doctor is delaying this may be an important one.

There are plenty of more natural approaches but from the chelations sites (yahoo) I reviewed they did not seem to be consistly getting results however some were doing well, but they may not have had other issues like Lyme.

All the Best, MattH
