I just got back from the ER with my daughter, with a brand new bullseye rash.

The APRN said, "Yep, Lyme" and gave her doxy 100 mg twice a day for 3 weeks.

Is that a high enough dose?

I would say no I think the standard dose of doxy is 200mg twice a day and most would say for 4-6 weeks. Also if there are co-infections doxy doesn`t cover all of them. But I`m not a doctor I just know what I have taken.

Hi Mary:

It may be enough, at least it is a start and will cover Erlichosis which can be deadly.

Your daughter HAS to avoid the sun while on doxy and of course take probiotics.

I would take a picture of the rash just in case you need proof down the road, also take a measurement of its size.

How old is this daughter?

Generally 6 weeks is considered the minimum for early catches.

She is 22. We came up with enough for 200 twice a day for 18 days.. hopefully enough til we get her to a lyme doc. Remember, my son has Chronic Lyme and half my family has Crohn's and/or Reactive Arthritis-- probably all triggered by Lyme.

So yeah, we're gonna hit it hard.

Thanks for the help.

I would want 200 mg twice a day for at least 6 wks... but that is me.

Remember .. the spirochetes replicate every 3-5 wks.

Yup, 200 mg twice a day, it's in Dr. B's guidelines, which are on a sticky. ANd, yes, 6 weeks at least, longer if there are symptoms. You're right, she needs and LLMD.

There's also a good LL nurse practitioner who recently settled in DC - pm me if you're interested.
