I know normally when we are on antibiotics we are watching for diarehea for c-diff. I am completly opposite. Before treatment I had BM's 5+ times a day, and lots of IBS symptoms. Now I'm constipated. Should I be concerned?

I'm pretty sure it's on the yeast symptoms list below...

Excellent probiotics:

VSL#3

Theralac

Whatever you take, take at least 100 billion CFU's per day. Wish someone had told me that 10 yrs ago!

Ok, so I need to up my probiotic more.

I see my Dr tomorrow... And remember he is only lyme aware... nice guy, but NOT knowledgeable. Do I need to have him do something?

Do you think you have yeast now?? Any other symptoms?? If so, ask him for Diflucan or a preventative Nystatin. Nystatin you could take daily. Tablets are good.

I'm not sure. My mouth is so dry in the morning that I literally have to separate my tongue from the roof of my mouth. I don't know if I have thrush.

I always have had the abdominal bloating type issues.

I had my anual pap last week, so I know that I don't have a yeast infection there.

Many of the other symptoms of fatigue, headache, cognitive stuff, blurry vision, all is lyme symptoms as well. I have lots of symptoms, but nothing that I can say is new.

Laura - have you tried increasing your magnesium and vitamin C levels? Not only would these prevent constipation, but also they would be extremely therapeutic for your illnesses.

The good thing about C and mag is that you can take as much as you want, and you should only back down when you notice loose or watery stools.

Also, super-dry mouth might be a symptom of Sjogren's (I think).

James- I have increased my magnesium. But, obviously I can increase it more. I take vitamin C, although I can't remember how much total I am taking... I take it individually and it is in several of my supplements.

What is a good level of Vitamin C to take?

I don't have issues of dry mouth during the day, so Sjogren's isnt an issue.

I have recently discovered that if I take binders it stops me up which leaves a breeding ground for candida. I now also take rhubarb root to make sure things keep moving.

Are you taking binders? That may be the cause.

No. I bought some. But because of the constipation I haven't started using it. But thanks for asking Haley.

Laura - Dr. B recommends between 4-6 GRAMS of vitamin C daily for Lyme. That's a lot. You probably would want to start at lower levels than that, because those levels might cause you severe diarrhea if you're not used to it.

For the magnesium, I think you can keep taking more until the constipation goes away. Many people use magnesium as a laxative. But since we have Lyme, we're usually low on magnesium anyway, so it's a double whammy.

Another thing that might help keep the bowels moving - coffee enema!! 2 of us forum members are already planning on trying our first coffee enemas this week, and you could be the lucky third! We could call ourselves the "Coffee Enema Gang". [lol]

For starters... up your magnesium intake and do it now!

Constipation is nothing to mess around with.

Arguably one of the most debilitating symptoms (in the long run)

TAKE MAGNESIUM NOW!!!

I'm guessing that I currently take in around 3g of vitamin C, so I will double check and increase it.

I will increase my magnesium as well.

Make sure that you are drinking enough water. Dry mouth is a sign of dehydration. That alone can make you constipated.

I stop constipation by drinking mangosteen juice, an anti-inflammatory juice. I notice that you also said you have blurry vision. The juice also stops all Lyme eye symptoms for me.

There are lots of varieties in healthfood stores and online. I like the Ultra and Mango-Xan varieties. if you try it, go slowly and drink water also, as it can be powerful.

My LLMD ignored my constipation complaints which in the end turned out to be a fungal plus yeast infection. Despite all the oral antifungal meds I was plied with, nothing worked. Now I have been turned over to an IDSA doctor to face IV antifungal meds which can be as horrible as chemotherapy. Have your doctor test to make sure it is not the cause. If it is all the oral vitamin c and magnesium in the world will not help as the infection robs you of vitamins and minerals. You have to get all of that via IV.

What specific test should my dr run?

Just get diflucan immediately, you do have yeast. They did the same with me, never gave me preventative and now still fighting this. I had the dry mouth, cravings for cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, carbs, VERY depressed, crying at nothing, wanting to die, joint aches, most of these symptoms mimic lyme. Constipation, I had that too and the anti fungal makes it worse so I went and ordered at vitacost.com colon cleanser and it works good. Anxiety, I am still getting that.
I read so much on yeast that 5 of my supplements are for yeast: grapefruitseed extract, olive leaf, goldenseal, capli acid (sp), and one other I think. Anyway, I am positive you have it. I just made my primary due a stool, urine and blood test for it to make sure I don't have it anymore so I can go back on antibiotics.
Let me know how you do
Kerry
