I have a strong urge to smoke. If I do, how will this affect my recovery? How will this affect the effectiveness of my antibiotics (Bactrim DS and Clindamycin Phosphate)?

I wouldn't do it. You already have massive toxins to deal with.

Oh my goodness! How will it affect your recovery?!

YOU WON'T RECOVER!

Ask yourself if you'd like to stay sick for the rest of your life. If you do want to be sick, then smoke. If you want to recover, then don't smoke. It's as simple as that.

I find that usually when I have an urge to smoke, it shows that my hormones are out of balance. You might want to look into some natural dopamine or serotonin boosters. I think there are some other supplements that are good to relieve cravings, also.

I haven't smoked for 10 years, but I still get intense cravings sometimes. Isn't that weird?

I think it also helps to eat crunchy foods that take a long time to eat. For example, if you chew on almonds every time you want to smoke, it might help to distract you from the cravings.

I have been told by 2 llds that smoking would hinder recovery. One told me that he didn't have any smoking pt.'s that had recovered. The 2nd told me that I needed to sign a contract that I wouldn't smoke before he would treat me. I have smoked some, quite several times, and have now been quit for 1 year. It definately affects treatment.

I sure wouldn't begin NOW. NO way.

i have been almost smoke free for the 4 months ive been treating. I was a heavy cigarette smoker especially as my lyme got worse and also marijuana...which has been the hardest to quit. And to think i used to tell myself it wasnt addictive! The couple times i have smoked during treatment i feel so much worse it really drags your body down and i think has an effect on the immune system. Plus you feel so much better not smoking, it makes a big difference.

When you have the urge to smoke, you can try reminding yourself about the effects the ciggies have on your body and how smoking will hinder your progress.

People who smoke have less O2 in the body. The carbon monoxide from the ciggies lowers your O2 carrying capacity throughout the body. Less O2 to your cells is NOT beneficial to the body, ESPECIALLY in those of us with lyme. The little buggers thrive in O2 deprived areas.

Smoking also has an effect on the immune system and will weaken your antibody response. This will make it harder to fight off lyme and friends. Most of us already have problems with our immune system so we don't need to go doing anything to weaken it further.

Try looking at pics of healthy verses diseases lungs. Visual aids can be very useful!

Smoking is a hard habit to break. Almost as bad as heroin they say. If you currently smoke.. At least cut down till you can quit for good. Cutting down worked for me and I became smoke free.

Many LLMDs will not treat patients that smoke or drink. Smoking kills you all on it's own. Tobacco is full of heavy metals and carcinogens. It sets off free radical damage throughout your body. Your immune system is already having a problem - why compound it?

smoking may be the worst things you can possibly do, sick or not. but especially if you're sick...

From page 27 of Burrascano's Lyme Treatment Guidelines:

"CERTAIN ABSOLUTE RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED IF LYME SYMPTOMS ARE TO BE PERMANENTLY
CLEARED:
1. Not allowed to get behind in sleep, or become overtired.
2. No caffeine or other stimulants that may affect depth or duration of sleep, or reduce or eliminate naps.
3. Absolutely no alcohol!
4. No smoking at all.
5. Aggressive exercises are required and should be initiated as soon as possible."

Quitting smoking can be insanely difficult. I read a book called "The Easy Way to Quit," by Allen Carr. The book is cheesey but it worked for me and has worked for a lot of people. Google it. Also I looked at pictures online of people who had lung cancer.

Who said I had any issues with quitting or starting? Thanks for the warnings but I'm going to smoke very heavily after Lyme is officially declared dead.

That is certainly your prerogative... just tryin to help

People who are so unappreciative of help generally have trouble getting answers after a while and they wonder why.

@sixgoofykids,

I couldn't agree more. And I'd also separately like to add that people that attempt to censor other people's thoughts have something to hide themselves.

Six, I never knew that those were the rules!

****, I have to be more careful.

You're living on the edge, James!! [lol]

who's censoring your thoughts? I see a lot of advice from well meaning people here, and by the way, you asked.

Please, smoke to your heart's content! Do it in a park or a mall or a restaurant while you're at it! Puff it up dude. If you don't like the info, go conduct your own biased studies. There is plenty of money in that.

This is a forum for sick, suffering people. What advice, exactly, did you expect to get?

Posted by kx90 (Member # 32897) on :

Huh? I didn't say I had issues with advice. See what happens when you attempt to censor people's thoughts, Lymetoo?

Let me take the time to THANK six, too, tf and the other folks here that are well now but stick around for US. Thanks You. You guys are my hero. Please please don't ever stop.

There is 2 ways to get rid of LD. Catch it early and take the right abx or, catch it late and take the right abx long term and follow a healthy life style. This site has been key for me to stay calm and follow thru.

I come here for advice. Sometimes I follow them sometimes I dont...I never had an issue with alcohol. I used to drink maybe 2 six packs a YEAR total. But I love to have a beer every now and then. I ignored the no alcohol rule for a while but now I follow it. Why? But cause I am not 100% still so I now follow the rules.

kx90, your tone is confrontational. Thats all people are saying. I have posted here 100 times and never felt censored. Many forums online have content policies. If you dont like them please just leave the forum but please don't give any grieve to the folks here that are helping out. They do this out of love and dont get pay for it.

Oh and another thing, think about donating a few bucks to the site. Hosting cost money and I am sure a site like this gets too much traffic to run on a $10.00 a month hosting plan. I would not be surprised if it cost them over 100.00 per months.

Thanks, Philly. That was kind of you!

I began deleting nasty comments, then saw that LouB had left them for all to see. So if this thread sounds disjointed, blame ME!! [bonk]

LouB has taken care of the problem. Thanks, Lou!
