My eyes have been turning yellow so I had my bilirubin checked and it is indeed high at 2.2. Also, my bicarbonate levels are high and my MCHC is low. I think my RBC my have been low in the past too but am not sure. Does anyone know if this is indicitive of hemolytic anemia? If so, I wonder why my docs aren't picking up on it. How serious is this?

I know someone who does not have Lyme but has hemolytic anemia. He did VERY well with Humaworm. He is in remission.

Please note as well, hemolytic anemia is not a type of anemia that responds to iron supplementation.

That is the extent of my knowledge of hemolytic anemia, lol.

Dear tickled1,
My best friend's mother has Cold Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. She was diagnosed several years ago. It is actually rare in people. Dogs are more likely to have it than people! Her symptoms were basically an extremely high fever with some others generally associated with a systemic infection.

Europe for some reason is more well-read on this illness. Cold Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia is aggravated by cool temperatures. My best friend's mother has to keep her part of the house at 80 degrees or above. In this instance, as sixgoofykids stated, iron supplementation is not going to repair the trouble. Transfusions are normally required by the patient. White blood cells destroy the red ones, which is extremely dangerous. Tests for it include checking your hematocrit levels. This is not to be confused with hemoglobin. They are different but related to anemia in a few ways.

Sincerely,
Jin
