HMMM so I'm about 8 months into my treatment for lyme and I noticed about 2 months ago that I was starting to gain weight. Its mostly noticeable in my thighs, and hips. i have excess fat around my lower back too. Its annoying. clothes dont fit me like they used to and I just feel GROSS with this extra weight on me

I'm assuming its got to be due to accumulation of toxins in my fat cells.

what can I do to lose this fat/weight. Any ideas. do I have to release the toxins out of my fat cells. how do I do that?!?!

id really appreciate all your help because I hate feeling uncomfortable with my weight like this. it has never been a problem for me!

I hear ya! i feel like I've been trying to loose weight forever now. I do think its because of inflammation and toxins. My weight will go through pretty big fluctuations every 3 months or so, literally over night, and it doesnt feel like fat....although I've always been very thin, so I guess I dont have much comparison.

I wish I had a solution. I just track my calories, work out, and try not to freak out. For me it was important to get a few pairs of jeans that fit (no matter my size), so I wouldnt feel gross putting on clothes. Do your best with detox and diet and I just trust that when I get better it will just fall off.

I am just about to start treatment but with being sick, I gained quite a lot of weight. My rheumatologist suggested using hcg to get the weight off. There is a lot of conflicting information on this diet protocol so if you want more information, you can look at the hcg yahoo group I belong to.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/HcgDieters/

This really saved my sanity. I had put on about 100 lbs and took off 120 lbs since January of 2010. Now I can maintain most of the time, but am still so toxic and sick that I do go back on hcg every 4 months or so for 3-4 weeks to take off any pounds that may have crept back on. Once I get better, I shouldn't have any weight issues. I am on it now and weight loss for the past 4 weeks is 21.8 lbs.

I also follow Dr. D'Adamo's blood type diet when I am off hcg. My digestion and tummy troubles are much better following this. You can follow the group postings to learn more:

http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?v-portal/

I was literally doubling over with pain every time I ate, with major IBS until I started following the food plan for my blood type. This plan can either help you lose a few pounds too or gain if that is your goal. It is all about helping your immune system function better and we all need that.

Hope this helps someone out!

Weight gain is on the symptom list for parasites. Check out the symptom list at Humaworm or google parasite symptoms.

faith,

i keep meaning to try hcg... i'm just so broke from medical bills!

did you have trouble losing weight on other diets first, or was hcg the first thing you tried?

i'm just skeptical, because it seems like every diet my friends lose weight on doesn't work for me...

Yes!! I agree. I stick to diets too. My neighbor recently lost 28 lbs doing the same exact diet I did, and I lost nothing.

Why is it so difficult to lose weight because of lyme? I don't understand what the connection is.

I have been eating primarily lean protein and veggies for a while not...I lose two pounds then gain it back. That's as far as my body will go.

It does feel gross.......

Ditto, here in MA. Have not had much of an appetite at all since Lyme took over back in October. I mean, I probably eat 1/16th of what I use to eat before getting sick. Yet I have gained about 30 pounds in 6 months time - I've been blaming it on living on NSAIDs. I've heard long term Advil, Alleve, etc. can cause weight gain??

I think of when a wound gets infected...what happens? It swells up, retains blood, fluid and doesnt go down until its treated and the infection is gone.

I feel like since our whole bodies are infected this is what happens.
