Hello guys again

I started taking bactrim ds about 4 days ago. I am also taking mepron, biaxin and plaquenil.

Been going good until this morning I felt some serious shortness of breath eventually it passed... This was before my am dose. Also tonight a few hours after my pm dose same thing couldn't get a good breath and I feel a bit congested but I have a regular cough anyway. But shortness of breath/ air hunger feeling was bad.

Curious if anyone has dealt with this. Do we think herx or reaction? Debating if I should stop taking it tomorrow. Any thoughts are appreciated

Don't stop it. Bactrim DS treats babesiosis. So, what is happening is your babs symptoms are flaring due to the Bactrim treatment.

If you can push through, you could get rid of babs.

Babs flares every 7 days or thereabouts. So, mark this episode on the calendar and see when it happens again. My flares lasted 2 days each. They started AS SOON AS I started taking Bactrim DS.

I got rid of babs taking bactrim DS.

Thanks TF I put a call into my llmd because it happened twice yesterday and I freaked lol I.was thinking flare but I.was worried because it says it could be a reaction to med too I'm going to detox detox detox

How long did you treat before feeling babs better ?

I really didn't have obvious babs symptoms until I started treating with the bactrim DS. I just had a positive from Igenex. It was the FISH which means they saw the babs in my blood.

So, I flared for about 6 months. Took the Bactrim for 7 and was then symptom free. But, winter was coming on, so I had to stay on it until spring--another 4-5 months.

These babs flares were horrendous. I became a virtual zombie. I just lay there. I went in and out of consciousness. I felt totally doomed and believed I would always be so (so, a totally depressed mental outlook--logic didn't work against it at all), I didn't eat, drink, talk, go to the bathroom, or even move for the 48 hours of the flare.

The flares were GREATLY reduced as soon as I told the lyme doc about them and he had me add artimesinin on the days of the flares. Took the art 3 days in a row each week.

As soon as I did that, the flares were nothing more than feeling tired and having to sleep. First week I added art, the flare went from 48 hours to 6 hours! It was like a miracle.

So, all these months of flares were nothing to write home about. They were so mild that if I wasn't on the lookout for them, I would not have paid any attention.

I remember the flares jumped to every 2 weeks (babs 14 day cycle) after a period of time.

The last flare was an overwhelming need to fall asleep while I was driving to a movie. I made it there, instantly fell asleep in the back seat for a few minutes, and then had hubby wake me and we went into the movie. That was it.

I just started bactrim DS (second time) the day before yesterday. I also had a flare of air hunger last night but nothing like I had before.

Now when I feel the need for more oxygen, I can actually take a very deep breath. I am not gasping - feeling my lungs will not expand deep enough.

I took Bactrim DS last year and it seemed to resolve the bartonella symptoms but not the babesia. I just restarted because I developed an allergy to zithromax and I needed something to address the bart that seems to be re-emerging.
My shins quit burning the first day.

I started Bactrim DS a few weeks ago, pretty slowly. Started with 1/4 twice a day for a week, went up to 1/2 twice a day for a week and then jumped to a whole pill 2x a day. The very day after the whole pills I became very sick. Air hunger (never had before), high anxiety, increased head pressure/pain, severe weakness etc., completely non-functioning.

I hung with it for 5 days because I didn't want to go through that again but after 5 days had to back down to 1/2 two times a day, that was almost a week ago. I still haven't gotten any better. People talk about "flares" that last a couple days. I've been in a constant state of severe illness since that increase on Aug. 1.

Trying everything to detox, coffee enemas, epsom baths, lemon water, castor oil pack, the only thing I need to get is the chlorella but I'm confused on timing. Is there hope this will ease up or will I need to go off it? Problem is even bvefore treatment began I went through periods like this that last months.

Thanks for any insight.

Thanks TF for sharing your experiences with me. My story is very similar in that I didn't even know I had babs before a positive igenex fish test and now I feel like holy hell pardon the language. In fatigued I have chills air hunger and feel almost feverish.

I've been trying to detox as much as possible although I'm.nervous about asg because of reaction and i havent started ldn yet either but im doing lemon water pekana and burbur or parsley although probably not as often as i could
Before this llmd my previous one had given me art as a maintenance for lyme because he said i was in remission he never treated me for any coinfections at all... He gave me 100 mg three times a day and the first.day was terrible I felt so bad air hunger anxiety etc I mean I was a walking panic attack lol

I conveyed this to my new llmd and we decided no art im wondering if these were flares then and if I should try it again

I'm also suppose to start a bab but I don't think I can handle worse flares so I don't really want to add it but I knoe i should did you use a bab? What else did.you take with bactrim ? I'm glad you beat this.its terrible [Smile]

I never used a bab. It may not have even been invented when I was treating. I completed treatment over 6 years ago now.

All I took was bactrim DS and the art. I took supplements also and did 1 hour of weight lifting every other day. That's it.

I took the bactrim for almost a year.
