Hello~
I'm seeing a new doc who believes that I do have an active lyme infection and he prescribed 100 mg
doxycycline hyclate twice a day. I started the meds yesterday am, according to directions and I have been nauseous and miserable since I started taking them. Just wondering if any of you have had trouble with doxy and if you have any advice. I'm supposed to take this for 30 days and then we'll switch over to another abx, but I can't imagine how I'm going to make it and don't want to put this off. Thoughts would be appreciated...

Take doxy in the middle of a meal, not on an empty stomach and wait 1/2 hour before lying down, That will help the nausea.

Agree with the above. Nausea happens when on doxy. The best way to deal with it is to eat, then take it, then eat some more.

These were my lyme doc's instructions to me.

Wish you the best.

Also, if you are taking the capsules you might want to try the tablets instead. I found they were much easier to tolerate than the caps.

If that doesn't work, then ask for Doryx. It's much easier on the stomach.

Thank you all for the advice. I just ate for the first time today and took it halfway through the meal and feel a little better right now-knock wood! Is Doryx as good as Doxy at killing the bugs???

I am taking 100 mg/day capsules now. I wonder why capsules were/are prescribed i/o tablets?

I had been taking 50 mg Doxy/day in tablet form as prescribed by my eye doctor. I assume the higher the dose - the more nausea?

Weird, I remember taking Doxy 20 and 25 years ago and do not recall getting nauseaous - only sunburned. I also took Doxy about eight years ago and don't recall nausea then either. I guess the dose those times were about 200 mg/day - whatever is usual dose for other bacterial infections.

It is only the past years with that Doxy has made me nauseous. Wonder what that means?

Also curious about the Doryx - works as well but with less side effects?

Absolutely!! It used to be very expensive, but should be available in generic form now.

Also, try making ginger tea. Cut up about 1 inch of fresh, peeled ginger root and steep it in water for about ten minutes. I had to do this every day for my first 6 weeks on doxy. Eventually my body became used to it, but it was tough at first.
