So it's been a while since I've posted on here, but I remember reading alot of post about root canals and certain dental work for people with lyme? Can someone let me know what is about root canals that you are and are not supposed do when you have lyme. I've had lyme for about 5 yrs and am getting my first root canal but don't want to do anything that will aggravate my sypmtoms more.

Please help!

There are probably many who know more about this than me. I have been fortunate to never have one nor had the need to this point.

Generally, root canals, they put toxic heavy metals and mercury in your body, and that's not going to be good for anybody, let alone someone with lyme disease.

Besides that, perhaps, with just a regular dentist, there is more chance of them creating a pocket of infection in there. (Or does that happen regardless of who does it?)

What are there alternatives, is a good question that I cannot answer. Just pull the tooth out and leave it like that, perhaps?

hildy - Please DON'T just have the tooth pulled!!! A vacant cavity can be a source of lots of bacteria and bone damage; it has to be handled a certain way to avoid this.

GiGi has some good into on this... Look on the 2nd or 3rd page and you might find it. Or, Google 'DAMS'. They can help you find a dentist who 'gets it'.
