My wife and I are looking into having kiddo #3. She has mild symptoms and will be going on antibiotics in 3 weeks for the duration of pregnancy.
I imagine her OBGYN will strongly object to this. How have others handled non lyme educated OB's?

When you become pregnant you become relatively immune deficient. Are you sure you want to do this? How about seeking out an OB who is Lyme educated? Your child's CNS system could become affected by the Lyme so really think about this decision. I was pregnant at 43 with my now 4 yr. old. Did not know I had lyme and probably had had it for more than 20 years. Because of my age hospital wanted to do an amnio to check for Down's Syndrome. Knew instinctively I would be that statistic of 1 in 100 that would lose the pregnancy and opted out. Had terrible peripheral neuropathy and incredibly sick most of the time. Altitude changes are very difficult with Lyme that has gotten into the CNS and pregnancy exacerbated that so I wouldn't take any trips to the mountains during the pregnancy. Days that are too hot or swimming in water that was too cold seemed to negatively affect the baby inside of me. Almost lost the pregnancy a few times because of temperature changes. Because I had lost the ability to maintain body temperature homeostasis any temperature change was incredibly hard on me and major temperature changes affected the baby. I would stay away from all sugar, even fruit. I would also make certain your wife gets all the rest she needs, especially after the birth.

Here is the more difficult part. If in the middle of the pregnancy your wife feels that her body is not successfully combating the Lyme, what will you do if the treatment to help her could negatively affect the baby she is carrying? I guarantee you that if my doctor was sharp enough to have run some tests and discovered and treated the Lyme sooner, I would have been in an emotional pickle about whether to choose the treatment and risk the pregnancy or to let the Lyme continue to do damage and multiply and suffer the consequences of that later.

Emmee..thanks for the concern. My wife only has very mild symptoms (sore wrists / elbows) and she will be on 2 drugs the entire pregancy, monitored by an LLMD. According to Dr. J and Dr. B and the LDA, this nearly eliminates the possibility of transmission.

I have been following a lady who keeps a blog on her lyme pregnancy. She was treated with 2 abx during p.g. and the cord blood was positive for lyme via Igenex. This is the web sight if you want to check it out.
I was pregnant with lyme and thankfully I had a successful pregnancy. Thankfully I found a high risk doc who was willing to go along with my llmds's protocol. I administered im bicillin shots 3x week for the full nine months. Once my daughter was born, i had her tested and visited Dr. J to get the final ok. Now, two years later my daughter is happy and healthy.
