Just wondering how many out there have had the side effect of severe depression with Mepron?
The script says this is a possible side effect. But how common? I awoke with text book depression symptoms and stopped taking the mempron because I was terrified of becoming even more depressed than I already feel just from being sick for so long.
But it would help to know if Mepron effected many others this way.

Search the forum for "Mepron blues" .... there's a long old thread on this topic. It might be helpful. At the time the people who wrote on the thread used it as a support group of sorts.

Hi, I had depression come on after taking Mepron for a few weeks. I kept going with it though, because it was really working and my other symptoms were going away. I kind of mellowed out after a while on it. The depression didn't seem to last. I guess it lasted for a few weeks.
I've switched to plaquenil now since Mepron was just too darn expensive for me.

Our daugher has been on it for 15+ months. We started slow but had her on the full dose by the end of two weeks.
She tollerates it well but initally there were some depression and anger episodes. Not sure how much was hormone vs the meds.
We continue with it as a cyst buster as she tollerates it well vs. tindamax.

That is a common side effect of Mepron.
Some say to lower the dosage until the depression clears and then you can raise it again and you won't get this side effect.

My daughter is on her second course of Mepron, first was 2 years ago. She was so much sicker than today and her die off/ side effect, depression was great, eventually subsiding. This time she still has the Mepron blues but not nearly as severe.
I would say push through if you can but trust yourself enough to know when its too much and take TFs advice and lower the dosage for a bit.
I know how hard it is to try to separate out what is a side effect, what is the disease and what is your reaction to all. No matter where your feelings come from, it is a very normal response to the battle you are engaged in.

My husband initially had SEVERE mood swings when he started the Mepron. It started to chill out a bit after 2 weeks. He is already on a bunch of antidepressants, so I hope that is keeping off the depression effects somewhat.
