I've been on Bicillin shots since May. Obviously they are never pleasant but since they seem to have made a huge impact, I keep on going.

Tonight, my husband was giving me my shot and for some unknown reason, he jerked and pulled the needle out about an inch according to him. He said that since it wasn't all the way out, he would push it back in. I paniced, tensed up (which obviously makes it worse) and told him to just take it out.

He said it was fine to push in but I swear this was more painful than it ever has been. Could be because I tensed, or could be that was a bad idea.

In any case, he is pushing in the med and I'm saying this isn't feeling right. He went slower and slower until it started shooting down my leg with pain. Was this due to being totally tense by now?

I finally just yelled to take it out. He said he hadn't even gotten in a half dose but I'm pretty frantic by now and just begging him to take it out.

He did, but in a nutshell, he does NOT feel this should have been a problem. For me...it hurt in a way that I've never felt before and just wanted it taken out.

Has anyone had any experience with how this type of scenario is suppose to be handled? I will admit that tensing the way I did (I have over the top anxiety that I'm sure didn't help this scenario) may have been what kicked me over the top.

I didn't tense up on purpose, but it happened. I haven't been able to find anything online on what he should have done in this situation. I would hope it won't ever happen again, but would like to know what is the rule of thumb on this IF I'm ever in this situation again.

I know people who have had this reaction to Bicillin shots when they were administered by the doctor!

I think you are OK. Generally, you shouldn't insert a needle again if it has come all the way out. Even though it's only your own blood and tissue, the needle is contaminated. It also won't glide as well on the second use.

If it only comes out a little bit, you can reposition, insert further, whatever.

Give your butt and leg a few days to settle down. I don't think there was any damage done.

And don't feel bad about freaking out. Who likes to get Bicillin shots??!!!!

Sounded like you hit a nerve. That happened to me once w/ the B12 injection. Hurt like crazy and made my leg (the good one) numb for days!

I'm a chicken when it comes to needles so I can totally understand why you would tense up. In fact I'm tensed even an hour before my injection. Nothing I can do about it. I doubt I will ever get used to the shots either. Hang in there.

Yes, I'm sure it was just hitting a nerve. I think nerves have been hit before when both accessing my port and with the bicillin shots.

Its just never been anything to this degree. Wow...sure hope we don't do that one again. Yikes.

Yes Lymetoo, a visiting nurse did show him the quadrant to do the shots. We even leave the band aid on until the next time on each side so he has a reference point of where it was.

But for some reason, this one got me good. Thanks for those replying. It was much appreciated. I was a bit shook up when I wrote it.
