Just checking to see if being on IV rocephin automatically means the gallbladder is going to become so inflamed it has to come out?
How many of you had to have your gallbladder taken out because Lyme hit you there?

I personally know of two people who lost their gall bladder to Rocephin.
I am due to go on it in 4 days w/ Actigall. The two people who lost their gall bladders were also on Actigall. I spoke to my Pharmacist and he said that all the years he has worked as a Pharmacist the only people who has lost their gall bladders due to Rocephin were Lyme patients!! I don't know if Lyme makes our situation more complicated... so I'm nervous about taking this med.
My LLMD said I will only going to be on it for 3 months at the max! We shall see.

i was on iv rocephin had some stomach trouble then started taking Actigall and it settled down and was able to take the rocephin for 6 months without any gallbladder problems yes the actigall is a must for rocephin users good luck

I did IV Rocephin for 3 months. Used Actigall. No problems whatsoever

I think the longer you are on it, the more likely you will have trouble. Be sure to take Actigall.
Lyme itself can attack the gallbladder .. so it's a double whammy.

I was on Rocephin for several months and did not take Actigall. I did not have to have my gallbladder removed.
If I would have known about Actigall at the time, I would have taken it.

Was on IV Rocephin for 120 days with Actigall.....No problems at all...you should get weekly blood panel draws if you can....

Son on IV Rocephin for 10 months without Actigall, no problems. Sister on it now with Actigall, no problems.

I was on IV Rocephin for 10 days with Actigall and the gallbladder pain was so great I couldn't walk. It took me a year before I could go off Actigall without having gallbladder pain.
So, I didn't lose my gallbladder but that's because I wanted to keep all my organs.

Which blood test monitors the gallbladder? I think ALT is liver right. I am looking at my CMP and CBC test results but I am not sure if it would indicate any gallbladder issues.
I feel fine - no pain there. Been taking Actigall since the first week of Rocephin and it has been about 3 months so far.

I get my blood test done weekly. As much as I want to get well, I don't want to put my organs at risk either! I get these tests done:
CBC Liver Function tests Amylase and Lipase levels
Before starting Rocephin, I'm having an Ultrasound of the gallbladder done as a baseline so we something to compare to if we ever need to.

I think the problem is that I started with gallbladder pain intermittently 9 years ago when the Lyme took over. I found a way to eat that helps, but if you push in the area where my gallbladder is, it really hurts.
Every female on my mothers side of the family has had to get their gallbladder out. Mime maybe diseased and I haven't even started on the antibiotics yet. If it is already a source of inflammation, I may have to get rid of it anyway. I am just trying to figure out what to do.

Hubby took 3 months to do a normal dose of IV rocephin back in 2003 (did the IV's 6 days per week only and ramped up slowly). He did an additional 7 months of IV Rocephin beginning in July 2010. He did not take actigall either time, but has been on ox bile supplements since 1999. No gallbladder problems either time.
The bilirubin numbers reflect gallbladder function. Elevated total bilirubin can be from gallstones or from hemolysis (die-off) of RBC -- need to test direct and indirect bilirubin to pinpoint the cause.
