I have read that not alot of painkillers can help the pain that is caused by lyme. I have tried many and find that Percocet and marijuana offer some relief, while things like Vicodin, Oxycontin, tylenol, tramadol, and advil dont. I am all for marijuana legalization because I believe its better than taking opiates long term though. What have any of you found to offer relief from pain?

I just had a colonoscopy and was given propofol. I went from feeling like crap for a few days, with head and neck burning to finally getting a break. All the symptoms just died out that day.

It was amazing and I was on cloud nine. Now I could understand where Michael Jackson was coming from.

What works well for the nerve pain? It has increased for me ALOT lately in my feet and lower legs. I'm having difficulty doing daily tasks because of it.
I already take morphine and neurontin with oxycodone as needed.
Would the marijuana work? Is it difficult to get a medical rx for it?

I am in the same boat and can ony seem to get relief from Cannabis and sometimes the Perocet helps depending on what level and what type of pain. I have tried many of the above listed with little relief. I take Klonopin and I wouldn't say that it eases thepain for me necessarily but it certainly helps with the anxiety and restlessness that goes along with the pain at bedtime so I can finally give in to the pain and fall asleep. As far as getting a rx for it...I live in RI and we have a compassion center on the Island and its still prety tricky to ind a prescriber...its still seeming to be pretty Taboo. I find that when I keep moving this dumbs the pain down a bit for me however its always there its just that I loosen up after about 30 mins to an hour and that seems to lessen it bt as soon as I stop going its almost back to full force within mins. I dont find anything helps me with any of the nerve pain and I know some of the anticonvulsant/antidepressant type drugs can be said to help but wouldn't dare risk it in my case after being wrongly prescribed Topamax for "BiPolar" and it sent me over the edge. The "BiPolar" went away after a month or so of treatment. Good Luck to you. I hope you find some relief. I have an appointment with a Lyme Aware Rheumatologist in a couple weeks. If I get any relief from that I will post.

I have the nerve pain as well.......along with multiple other varieties and I don't mean a little bit. Tried neurontin and cymbalta which caused side effects for me so I had to stop them very soon after starting.

Best thing I've found so far is ms-contin. basically just morphine but it is extended release so you dont have the peak and crash. It eases in and out.

That being said it by no means completely gets rid of the pain. It does knock it down to a somewhat reasonable level. I wasn't quite sure it was going to help me at first until it started wearing off. You can figure out the rest I am sure [Smile]

This is really the only thing that helped me enough to return to work. Normally I take one in the morning and that gets me through the day. At night it's percocet or vicodin. I switch them back and forth so I don't get used to either and take a flexeril along with it.

Haven't tried cannibus unfortunately (not that I would be opposed). I got corporate ok to work on the ms-contin which is unbelievable. If I would go in there and say hey I want to try some weed next, I am guessing they would have something to say. [lol]

Hopefully I will be able to keep working more often than not with this....... time will tell.

Got a little side tracked there......sorry. Anyway, good old tried and true opiates are the best in my mind. They work for most and have a well known track record.

I hope you find your answer and are able get some relief soon.

You might investigate low dose naltrexone which is supposed to help with pain by increasing endorphins and reducing inflammation. It also boosts your immune system and can reverse auto immune disease.

It does not mess up your mind. It does make you feel happier and calmer.
