Llmd said to take cats claw with samento 500 mg. 2x a day. WBC down low. No stores carry it here. Have a wedding to go to. I know you would know, where can I get it? Is cats law different with samento or are they 2 different things. Thanks so much. God bless.

Samento is TOA free cats claw. Theyre not exactly the same. I think most people do samento but there are some who do better with pure cats claw.

Is it used for immune system build up?

In Stephen Buhner's book, Healing Lyme, he says that Toe TOA free stuff is a waste of money, and recommends the pure cats claw (provides data on this). I can't remember, but I think he said the pure cats claw works better.

Raintree makes a good one, so does Natures Way (you can get Nature's Way at most health food stores).

I believe its primarily used to kill Lyme - a natural antibiotic.

I wouldn't take both. Got any health food stores around?

I prefer TOA free cat's claw. Plain cat's claw did nothing for me.

This is what I took:

I would not take anything NEW to you body if you are on your way to a social function. Never. Ever.

I have tried both. I did much better with regular Cat's Claw. Herb Pharm is an excellent line of tinctures thatis sold in many health groceries. It's about $10. for a once ounce bottle of tincture.

RainTree is another excellent source of the whole Cat's Claw - they have the capsules or dry herb.

You do need to clear this up with your LLMD but if he said Samento, that is the TOA-free, NOT the original Cat's Claw. But, as he used the term, Samento, that implies the TOA-free.

The main difference is in the neurological support of the the original Cat's Claw - it has a calming effect on the nerve fibers. I love how it helps calm down nerve irritation.

The TOA-free does not have that effect as it's the TOA that calms and promotes a nice sense of well-being.

Removing the TOA changes things the properties.

As you see here, each kind seems to work for some but not for others. Bottom line, I'd order what your LLMD suggested and use that. Then discuss your experience with your LLMD next visit.

You're paying your doctor for his advice. There must be some reason he wants YOU to use the altered version over the original.

Just be aware that there is a difference of opinions among LL doctors -- and the pure Cat's Claw has good benefits, too. And is far less expensive.

I agree with Lymetoo, do not take both at once. They are both very powerful. Samento is part of the Cowden protocol and Dr. S. believes it works better than Doxy at treating Lyme.. There has been discussion here about the benefits of Samento.

Regular Cat's Claw made me very anxious to the point of panic and I could not continue using it.

I forgot to mention, that with any supplement, it's best to start with ONE drop in 1/3 cup of warm water - or ONE capsule a day.

As you can see, there are various effects.

One type can be calming for one; agitating to another.

Also, don't start two supplements at the same time. This ensures that you get the best estimation of how your body will accept ONE thing.

Then, when another one is to be added, I stop others for a day or two just to give the new one a clear "palate" of sorts.

Cat's claw (una de gato) seems to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant (anti-cancer), and pro-immune system properties.

Cat's claw has a number of different alkaloids. It is thought by some that tetracyclic
oxindole alkaloids (TOA) may inhibit the action of cat's claw, though others see no problem with TOA. Samento is simply the brand name of a TOA-free cat's claw, which has a few other fillers and is more expensive than other cat's claw products sold elsewhere.

I hope that helps.
